Group F Is Wide Open

The remaining fixtures in Group F will be even more enthralling thanks to Saturday's results.

Colombia's shocking win against one of the favourites for the tournament sent Twitter abuzz. Former USA international Alexi Lalas was pleased with what he saw:

Despite being much the better side in the first half, France were 1-0 down at the break as Andrade latched onto a lofted through ball to slot home neatly past Sarah Bouhaddi.

Eugenie Le Sommer, Camille Abily and Jessica Houara all had chances to claim an equaliser, but some profligate finishing and steadfast defending prevented them from making their way back into the game.

Andrade continued to dazzle with some impressive footwork:

As Les Bleues pushed for a leveller later on, Usme made no mistake on the counter-attack as she sealed the win for Colombia in injury time with a smart finish.

The win puts Las Cafeteras atop Group F heading into their final fixture with England, but the Three Lionesses sit just one point behind them thanks to their win against Mexico.

England's 1-0 defeat to France in their opening fixture left them desperate to register some points, and goals from Fran Kirby and Karen Carney earned them a hard-fought victory in Moncton.

England edged the first half, as Kirby, Toni Duggan and Eniola Aluko had chances to put the Three Lionesses ahead, but it wasn't until the 71st minute that they were able to make a breakthrough.

Kirby took full advantage of a loose ball to prod home from 12 yards, before substitute Carney headed home Alex Greenwood's excellent cross with eight minutes of normal time remaining.

Fabiola Ibarra pulled one back in injury time for Mexico, but it was a well-deserved win for England.

Kirby expressed her delight at the result on Twitter:

The results mean France, Colombia or England can still finish top of the group, while Mexico can still finish second if results go their way.

Despite the upset, Les Bleues should have enough quality to overcome Mexico in their final game. Should they do so, the pressure will be firmly on England to beat Colombia.

Based on their display against France, Las Cafeteras will be a difficult challenge for the Three Lionesses, but now things have started to click for Mark Sampson's side, and they may just be able to sneak a win in what's sure to be a tightly contested clash.
