The Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend
The weekend played host to high-profile matches in the Women's World Cup and the Copa America, but the lion's share of the golazos came from the plethora of Euro 2016 qualifiers that took place all across Europe.
Such was the quality and volume of beautiful strikes that our latest goal ranking has increased from 10 to 12, kicking off with a special effort from The Mighty Zlatan...
12. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden) vs. Montenegro
1 of 12Sweden—or "Zlatan +10" as a certain talismanic striker would probably prefer them to be called—marched to a 3-1 win over Montenegro at the Friends Arena on Sunday.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice, the first of which was a beautifully drilled low shot across goal.
11. Jack Wilshere (England) vs. Slovenia
2 of 12England managed a surprisingly entertaining 3-2 win in Slovenia on Sunday to maintain their 100 per cent record in Euro 2016 qualifying.
Jack Wilshere scored a wonderful left-footed strike just before the hour mark to equalise, but the Arsenal midfielder's finest effort came 15 minutes later, when he put the Three Lions ahead with another delectable finish into the top-left corner.
10. Marc Janko (Austria) vs. Russia
3 of 12Austria's superb European qualification form continued on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Fabio Capello's Russia in Moscow.
The goal was an instinctive bicycle kick from highly prolific striker Marc Janko.
9. Ivelin Popov (Bulgaria) vs. Malta
4 of 12Neither Bulgaria nor Malta are currently in the position to qualify for Euro 2016, as they sit in fourth and sixth position in Group H, respectively.
The Bulgarians, however, earned a 1-0 win in Malta on Friday evening, thanks to a fantastic volley from Spartak Moscow midfielder Ivelin Popov.
8. Zoltan Stieber (Hungary) vs. Finland
5 of 12Hungary took a step closer to Euro 2016 qualification on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Finland in Helsinki.
The deciding goal was absolute rocket of a half-volley from Hamburg's Zoltan Stieber.
7. Borek Dockal (Czech Republic) vs. Iceland
6 of 12Iceland and the Czech Republic—who are both keeping the Netherlands in the third spot of Euro 2016 qualifying Group A—met on Saturday, with the Czechs suffering a 2-1 defeat.
The opening goal of the game was a very powerful strike from Sparta Prague midfielder Borek Dockal.
6. Souza (Sao Paulo) vs. Chapecoense
7 of 12And now for a golazo that took place outside of Europe!
Sao Paulo lead the Campeonato Brasileirao after a 1-0 win at Chapecoense on Saturday.
The winner came after just six minutes of play, when 26-year-old midfielder Souza struck a glorious 30-yard ball across the goal and over the keeper.
5. Diego Fagundez (New England) vs. Chicago
8 of 12The Chicago Fire remained rooted to the bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference, with a 2-0 loss at New England on Saturday.
The home side opened the scoring in spectacular fashion in the 48th minute, when Uruguayan striker Diego Fagundez found the back of the net with a wonderful side-footed volley.
4. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) vs. Armenia
9 of 12Portugal went a goal down to lowly Armenia in their Euro 2016 qualifier on Saturday, but they bounced back to remain top of Group I with a 3-2 win.
All three Portuguese goals came courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose final strike in the 58th minute was an unstoppable right-footed drive.
3. Marcos Pizzelli (Armenia) vs. Portugal
10 of 12Ronaldo may have bagged a hat-trick in Portugal's victory over Armenia, but he didn't score the best goal of the game in Yerevan.
That honour went to Marcos Pizzelli, who showed perfect free-kick technique to give the hosts the lead. The midfielder, who plays for Kazakhstan Premier League side FC Aktobe, showed the kind of dead-ball form that Ronaldo only threatens on his very best days.
2. Sandro Wieser (Moldova) vs. Liechtenstein
11 of 12Moldova's visit to Liechtenstein may not have been one of the most glamorous games on the European qualification docket over the weekend, but it provided a world-class goal.
In the 21st minute, Sandro Wieser opened the scoring with a sensational long-range strike that will almost certainly sit very highly on his career highlight reel.
1. Arkadiusz Milik (Poland) vs. Georgia
12 of 12Poland remained undefeated at the top of Euro qualifying Group D, with a 4-0 win over UEFA whipping boys Gibraltar (who have now conceded 34 goals in six qualifiers).
Robert Lewandowski scored a ridiculous four-minute injury-time hat-trick, but Poland's best goal was Arkadiusz Milik's opener just after the hour mark. There was simply no stopping the Ajax striker's beautiful strike across goal.
