Mexico 0, Bolivia 0
Ricardo Pedriel struck the post in the 14th minute as the Bolivians had the better chance despite Mexico's good start. A low, bouncing cross came in, and Pedriel had the near post to finish but couldn't quite find the space between the woodwork and Jesus Corona.
Mexico fielded a side lacking creativity, and the players they had were not seeing the ball early on, according to ESPN's Tom Marshall:
As Tecatito became more involved, Mexico's chances expanded, but it was Bolivia again toward the end of the first that forced Corona into another fine save. An effort from almost 30 yards from Jhasmani Campos was struck well, but Corona made an impressive lunging save, pushing the ball over the bar.
Marshall was not impressed by Mexico's output:
Tecatito was the benefactor of a nice Mexican move, and he found himself alone from 16 yards out. But the midfielder hit it well wide.
A pair of chances in the 63rd and the 66th minute came to nothing, as Mexico was able to make chances of their possession play—unlike their first half exploits.
Mexico looked for more firepower up front, substituting in Javier Aquino and Raul Jimenez. Aquino combined with Juan Carlos Medina in the 73rd minute, who sent a shot that beat Bolivian keeper Romel Javier Quinonez but not the crossbar.
Aquino was clipped while making a run in the Bolivia box in the 81st minute, but no call was made as he tried to make the most of limited contact. Matias Vuoso had a chance blocked at the edge of the six-yard box, as Mexico failed to score against one of the bottom sides in South America.
