France vs. England

LONDON, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 23: Toni Duggan of England in action during the Women's International Friendly match between England and Germany at Wembley Stadium on November 23, 2014 in London, England. (Photo by Paul Gilham/Getty Images)

France have had England's number in recent major tournaments. Les Bleus prevailed 3-0 as England went out at the group stage at Euro 2013, and they won an agonising penalty shootout in the quarter-finals of the 2011 World Cup.

Against the No. 3 team in the world, the Three Lionesses could hardly have drawn a tougher opener at the Canada tournament.

However, it should be a closely fought encounter, with both sides possessing great experience and some real quality.

England captain Steph Houghton is confident in her side's talent, suggesting they have it in them to go all the way in 2015:

The likes of Eniola Aluko and Toni Duggan could be key for England in attack, but the defence will need to hold firm in the face of France's forward players.

In Louisa Necib, France have a playmaker who can control the pace of the game and terrorise opposition teams with her pinpoint passing and inventive movement.

France have the edge ahead of Tuesday's clash, but England will be desperate to right the wrongs of previous tournaments, and it is sure to be a fierce and high-quality contest.

Brazil vs. Korea Republic

It is impossible to talk about Brazil without focusing on five-time FIFA World Player of the Year Marta.

The 29-year-old forward is one of the best players in the world and is essential to Brazil's prospects at the 2015 World Cup. ESPN Stats & Info highlighted her pedigree at previous tournaments:

She will likely prove the downfall for Korea Republic, who are unlikely to have the defensive attributes to handle a legend of the game in their second World Cup appearance.

BRASILIA, BRAZIL - DECEMBER 10: Marta (R) and Andressa of Brazil celebrate the victory against Argentina during a match between Brazil and Argentina as part of International Women's Football Tournament of Brasilia at Mane Garrincha Stadium on December 10

Cristiane joins Marta in the forward line to create a devastating attack that should see Brazil easily out of Group E, but there are concerns over their lack of depth when it comes to facing the bigger teams in the knockout stages.

Their opening match on Tuesday will be a good opportunity to establish how significant a threat Brazil can be in the latter stages in Canada.

A convincing performance will give them great confidence going forward and lift the pressure slightly as they look to negotiate their group.
