Jaquan Yulee to Alabama: Crimson Tide Land 4-Star LB Prospect

Timothy RappJun 8, 2015

Alabama landed a major recruit and the first linebacker in its recruiting class on Monday night, securing the commitment of 4-star prospect Jaquan Yulee.

As Drew Champlin of AL.com reported, Yulee made the announcement at his high school in Chesapeake, Virginia, choosing the Crimson Tide over North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Michigan State.

”It was a really tough decision," Yulee told Michael Clark of Scout.com. "All the schools really were behind me through the whole process. In the end, academics and where I felt at home were the main factors. It feels great to have my decision made. It feels like a lot of stress has been lifted off my back.”

He added, ”When it comes to Alabama, they’re just unbelievable. They have a lot of talent and I just love the football program.”

Per Andrew Bone of Yahoo Sports, the Alabama coaching staff may have even been a bit surprised by the news:

"

Hearing Yulee kept things very silent prior to his commitment to #Alabama. #Bama coaches were not aware of decision until the announcement.

247Sports' composite rankings list Yulee as a 4-star inside linebacker. He's ranked as the No. 126 player in the country, the No. 6 inside linebacker and the No. 4 player from the state of Virginia. Standing at 6'0" and weighing 252 pounds, Yulee is an exciting linebacker prospect and was an excellent out-of-state commitment for the Crimson Tide to land.

It's another coup for Alabama, as head coach Nick Saban continues to stockpile his program with talented incoming recruits. The Crimson Tide are regular contenders for a national title, and that process begins with Saban's famously expert recruiting.

Yulee is the next steal for the Crimson Tide. While his height isn't ideal, he has another year in high school to fine-tune at the position before heading to Alabama, where the rich got a bit richer on Monday night.
