2016 QB Recruit Dillon Sterling-Cole Tweets Top 8

Justin FergusonJun 4, 2015

One of the fastest-rising quarterback prospects in the Class of 2016 has narrowed his list of schools down to eight, and it's an eclectic mix of recruiting powerhouses and growing mid-majors.

On Thursday, Dillon Sterling-Cole, a 3-star quarterback from Westfield High School in Houston, Texas, tweeted a list of his top eight schools. Sterling-Cole also added that he is still open to other schools that did not make the list.

Sterling-Cole was the MVP of the Elite 11 Dallas regional in March, which earned him a spot at the Elite 11 semifinals in Los Angeles this weekend and an invitation to The Opening in Oregon later this summer.

"Dillon was my favorite on tape," Elite 11 coach Trent Dilfer told Bleacher Report's Damon Sayles in March. "I felt like he had a really great shot coming into it. He ripped the ball all day. He changed speeds, he was accurate, his footwork was great, and he was coachable."

Since taking home the top quarterback award in Dallas, Sterling-Cole has jumped from No. 974 overall in 247Sports' composite rankings to his current spot at No. 414—and he still has plenty of time to keep climbing.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Sterling-Cole recorded 2,206 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions for Westfield last season.

Sterling-Cole has close ties to two particular in-state schools in his top-eight list—Texas A&M and Houston.

He is the son of former Aggies wide receiver Chris Cole, who played in the NFL with the Denver Broncos. Six of the 10 crystal ball predictions for Sterling-Cole have him following in his father's footsteps and playing in College Station.

"A&M was at the top of my list of favorite schools growing up," Sterling-Cole told Sayles in March. "[Former Aggies quarterback] Jerrod Johnson was a person that I looked up to besides my dad."

According to 247Sports' Brian Perroni, Sterling-Cole's former high school coach, Corby Meekins, was hired as the new tight ends coach at Houston this offseason. One of his Westfield teammates, 5-star defensive tackle Ed Oliver, committed to the Cougars late last month.

In addition to Texas A&M and Houston, Florida and Arizona State round out the crystal call predictions for Sterling-Cole. The Gators were the most recent team to offer him a scholarship.

With a growing offer sheet and more high-profile chances to get noticed in the coming months, it looks like there will be a huge recruiting battle for Sterling-Cole's commitment both inside and outside of Texas.
