B/R Exclusive: 4-Star WR Cavin Ridley Breaks Down Top 5 Schools

Damon SaylesJun 4, 2015

One look at the new top five of Pompano Beach, Florida, wide receiver Cavin Ridley says a lot. He wants to play for a traditional powerhouse, a place where a receiver can make a name for himself quickly.

One school is hoping the 4-star receiver follows his older brother's footsteps. Two other schools are hoping to keep Ridley in state. And then there are two additional schools hoping he carves out his own path.

For Ridley, the nation's No. 36 receiver in the 2016 class, playing at any of his five choices is a can't-miss opportunity, but the Deerfield Beach High School prospect knows that choosing a winner out of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and LSU will be difficult.

Herein lies the problem.

"I really like all of the schools," said Ridley, the younger brother of 2015 Alabama signee Calvin Ridley. "I know I'm going to have to think about which school I can really see myself fitting into. It'll be something I feel. It's going to be a feeling that I'll just run with."

Fortunately for Ridley, he still has plenty of time to make a decision. The 6'1", 190-pound receiver trimmed his double-figure offer list on Wednesday and said he will not rush the process. Trimming the list will allow him to put his sole focus on five schools in an effort to concentrate on being more of a catalyst for Deerfield Beach in the fall.

Ridley's 247Sports Crystal Ball points to Alabama (77 percent). Florida is a distant second (23 percent). Many feel he will follow his brother to Tuscaloosa and form a solid receiver tandem.

Of the five schools, Ridley said Alabama and Florida are the two most intriguing offers at this time. While he added that anything can change at any given time, he'll be keeping an eye on everything the Crimson Tide and Gators do throughout the summer.

"I've been to a couple of colleges to visit, and there's no other college like Alabama," Ridley said. "It's the atmosphere there and how everybody treats you. It's how they do everything. They're about family, and I can see myself playing there.

"With Florida, I grew up being a Florida fan. I mean, I always wanted to be Gator, and now that I have that offer, I'm able to live out what I've been dreaming about all my life."

Ridley added that Florida State, Auburn and LSU are three programs in which he could see himself developing into a game-changing receiver. He's a fan of all the schools' head coaches and receiver coaches, but he said a decision will come down to overall comfort.

For those who believe his brother will be the X-factor in his process, Ridley set the record straight.

"I want to get to a place where I can say this is where Cavin's comfortable," he said. "My brother doesn't really talk about the schools to me. He knows it's my decision. I know he's an Alabama fan, but at the end of the day, it's my decision."

Ridley said he doesn't have a timetable for a commitment. He's enjoying the process for now, regardless of the ups and downs the process can bring to a wanted recruit.

"I actually see all of this as a blessing," Ridley said. "Even when it's stressful, it's a blessing to be stressed to where I can say I can go to this college or that college. I know God will help me make the right decision."
