Mavericks, Grizzlies Expressing Interest in Oden
Saturday, June 20
Shams Charania of RealGM reported Oden will work out for the Dallas Mavericks this week.
On May 30, Charania reported the Memphis Grizzlies are looking into the possibility of having Oden take part in a free-agent camp next month.
"The Memphis Grizzlies have explored center Greg Oden, expressing interest in the recent past with a workout in the spring. The Grizzlies will potentially bring in the former No. 1 overall NBA pick to a free-agent camp in June, league sources told RealGM," Charania wrote.
Charania did note the Grizzlies' level of interest "remains unclear" and Oden "is undecided" on whether he wants to participate in the camp, whenever it is held.
The Grizzlies would make sense as a potential landing spot for Oden if he decides to make an NBA return. Marc Gasol is set to become a free agent this summer, possibly leaving a gaping void at center if he signs with another team.
Memphis certainly can't rely on Oden to to replace the full production Gasol could provide, but the former No. 1 overall pick did average a solid 11.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per 36 minutes in 23 games for the Heat, per Basketball-Reference.com. Still there isn't a team that can count on Oden to contribute to a full 82-game season based on his history.
