NBA All-Defensive Team 2014-15: First-, Second-Team Selections, Reaction, More

Tim DanielsMay 20, 2015

Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs led all vote-getters as the NBA announced its All-Defensive teams for the 2014-15 NBA season on Wednesday. The Golden State Warriors' Draymond Green finished a close second in the voting.

Mike Richman of the Oregonian provided the complete breakdown:

Earlier this spring, Leonard was also named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year. His growth as an all-around player, but particularly as a defender capable of locking down an opponent's top perimeter weapon, has been essential to the Spurs' success over the past two years.

Synergy Sports Tech passed along one example of his extraordinary impact:

His teammate, Tim Duncan, was named to the second team. This marks the 15th time the Big Fundamental has been named to one of the All-Defensive units.

Green once again finishes as the runner-up in overall voting points. This one was a little more clear-cut than the Defensive Player of the Year, in which he received more first-place votes but lost the final count.

Monte Poole of CSN Bay Area shared his comments about that defeat: "Now, I don't understand that. I don't understand that one. But it is what it is."

With or without top billing, Green's defensive impact is obvious as the Warriors continue to push toward an NBA title.

Golden State center Andrew Bogut, who made the second team, is set to receive a financial windfall for the honor, as Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors points out:

"

Bogut's selection is perhaps most important, since he triggers a bonus worth 15 percent of his nearly $12.973 million salary for this season, giving him approximately $1.946 million in extra pay. It also means his cap hit for next season jumps to $13.8 million instead of $12 million, since the bonus will fall in the category of a likely bonus.

"

Los Angeles Clippers teammates Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan, along with Tony Allen of the Memphis Grizzlies, joined Leonard and Green on the first team.

Bogut and Duncan are paired with rising star Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans, John Wall of the Washington Wizards and Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls on the second team.

Given the prevalence of young players on the two teams, basketball fans will likely see many of the same names on these lists for years to come.
