"Thanks to AC Milan for their support interest. It was hard to say no to such beloved club to me but I need some rest. I wish them the best," Ancelotti said, via his Twitter account.
Ancelotti has also been linked to a move to England, with Jose Felix Diaz of Marca having reported that he was the subject of interest from Liverpool, who finished their disappointing season with a 6-1 defeat at Stoke City to increase the pressure on current manager Brendan Rodgers.
And Diaz noted that Liverpool "may be the only club capable of changing his mind" regarding Ancelotti's planned sabbatical from the game after his Bernabeu exit.
Ancelotti remains one of the sport's great managers, someone who has a knack for turning teams into trophy winners. His departure from Real Madrid will ensure interest from other suitors for his services.
