Friday Recap
There was only one match played on Friday, as Reading beat Aston Villa 1-0 in front of a great crowd at the Madejski Stadium to reclaim the second spot in the Group 2 standings.
The hosts gave away free tickets for Friday's match, ensuring their youngsters would receive plenty of support from the fans, and Liam Kelly scored the only goal of the match with a fantastic free kick in the first half, per the club's official Twitter account:
Villa gave Reading a strong challenge and had several chances to equalise after half-time, but overall, Reading survived relatively comfortably. Andrija Novakovic should have finished the match five minutes before the final whistle, but failed to direct his effort into the goal.
Reading held onto the win, however, passing Derby County in the standings and moving ever closer to promotion to Group 1:
The club still has matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion on the schedule ad leads Derby by two points, with a match in hand. Just a single win will confirm Reading's spot in Group 1 for next season.
Thursday Recap
Ryan Kent scored a magnificent long-range brace as his Liverpool side battled back from a goal down to win the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
Everton started brightly on the first-team pitch and played an exciting brand of attacking football, culminating in Harry Charsley tapping home from close range to open the scoring.
The lead was short-lived, however, with Kent equalising superbly just three minutes later before adding a second from distance midway through the second half. A late Sheyi Ojo penalty wrapped up the victory.
The win lifts Liverpool above Norwich City into second place in Group 1, just two points behind league leaders Manchester United.
Chelsea also secured a comfortable away win, beating Southampton, 2-0, at St Mary's:
Kasey Palmer opened the scoring with a sublime strike into the top right-hand corner, after wriggling away from three Saints defenders. Dominic Solanke sealed the win in stoppage time after capitalising on a poor back pass.
The win takes Chelsea to sixth place, six points behind league leaders United but with two games in hand over the Red Devils.
Tuesday Recap

Robin van Persie scored twice in Manchester United's 4-1 win over Fulham, giving the Red Devils a four-point lead over Norwich City at the top of the Group 1 standings.
Meanwhile, Arsenal suffered yet another loss in Group 2, tumbling further down the standings after losing to West Bromwich Albion, 3-0.
Van Persie, Adnan Januzaj and Rafael all somewhat disappointed the last time they lined up for the U21 side, but while the latter missed Tuesday's match due to injury, the other two redeemed themselves against Fulham, as shared by the club's official Twitter account:
Joe Rothwell also scored twice in the comprehensive win, while Stephen Humphrys managed to pull one back late for the hosts.
The Red Devils increase their lead over Norwich City and Liverpool in Group 1 with the result, and with the Reds taking on rivals Everton on Thursday, things are looking up for United.
The same can't be said for Arsenal, who dropped yet another result on Tuesday, this time losing, 3-0, against West Brom. Adil Nabi scored a brace and Jack Fitzwater also managed a goal for the hosts, who made a mockery of the Gunners for the full 90 minutes.
West Brom manager James Shan told the club's official website how happy he was with his team's performance, reserving special praise for its younger members:
"I said in the preview that I wanted to use the same group of players and look to build on the point gained at Stoke last week.
I think we did that in abundance today, we were excellent.
The boys applied themselves brilliantly and they totally deserved their victory.
I was really impressed with several of the Under-18 players in the squad, most notably Josh Ezewele at right-back and Jack Fitzwater at centre-back.
"
Derby County easily beat Newcastle United, 4-0, to regain second place in Group 2, passing Reading in the process, while Group 2 leaders Middlesbrough recorded a 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers.
Monday Recap
Duncan Watmore was the star for Sunderland on Monday, tormenting the Tottenham defence and scoring the only goal in the team's 1-0 win over Spurs.
The match was tightly contested and saw few chances, and Watmore made the most of his opportunity early in the second half, scoring a calm goal that would ultimately hand the visitors the win:
Tottenham have struggled tremendously in recent weeks after a strong start to the season, and following Monday's result, the chance to win the Group 1 title seems all but gone at this point.
Manchester United and Liverpool have been in excellent form of late, as have Norwich City, whose last loss came against Fulham in March.
There was a bright spot for Spurs on Monday, however, as Milos Veljkovic captained the side, showing he's slowly working his way back from a heavy injury:
Reading comfortably beat Stoke City, 3-0, at home, taking the Royals' win streak to six matches, per the club's official Twitter account:
The gap between Group 2 leaders Middlesbrough and the Royals is now just three points, with both teams having played 19 matches. With in-form Aston Villa next on the schedule, Reading face yet another big challenge in their chase when they return to the pitch on Friday.
Wolves have endured a miserable campaign at the bottom of Group 2, and it continued with a 1-0 loss against Blackburn on Monday. David Carson's solitary goal saw the hosts win their third straight match, moving into the belly of the standings in the process.
Arsenal will be on the road on Tuesday, playing West Bromwich Albion, while Derby County and Newcastle will go head-to-head in Group 2. All eyes will be on Liverpool this week, however, as the Reds will play arch-rivals Everton before hosting in-form Leicester City in back-to-back matches.
