Arda Turan Receives Red Card vs. Real Madrid: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction

Atletico Madrid's Arda Turan put his team in a hole during their Champions League quarter-final match against rivals Real Madrid, running into his second yellow card to grab an early shower on Wednesday.

The two teams were locked in a 0-0 stalemate with just 15 minutes left to play at the time of the dismissal, and with extra time looming, the Turkey international chose a particularly bad time to abandon his team-mates. Already on a yellow card, he went in with a high boot on Sergio Ramos, as shared by AS English's Nicholas Rigg:

Many felt the sending off was quite harsh even if Turan was to blame for the high boot. DW-Sports thought it was obvious the Spaniard sold the foul as best as he could:

Bleacher Report's Michael Cummings noted the Atleti man took his sweet time departing the pitch:

Not Match of the Day couldn't help but think about this nugget:

Real and Atletico had turned this quarter-final into one of the closest ties we've seen in years, and with Turan no longer on the pitch, the advantage shifted to Los Blancos.

With almost no time left on the clock, a wonderful team move led to a goal from Javier Hernandez, and the 1-0 result was enough to knock Atletico out of the tournament and send Real through to the semi-final.
