PFA Player of the Year 2015: Winner, Voting Results and Awards Reaction

Rory MarsdenApr 26, 2015

Chelsea's Eden Hazard has been named the 2015 PFA Player of the Year, beating the likes of Harry Kane and David de Gea to the award.

The Belgian attacker was widely tipped to win the award after a stellar season with the Blues in the Premier League, and he received the gong at a ceremony in Grosvenor House, London, on Sunday, as the PFA announced:

ESPN FC's Miguel Delaney broke down the final rankings:

Along with Tottenham striker Kane and Manchester United goalkeeper De Gea, Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho and Blues striker Diego Costa were also nominated for the award.

Voted for by the members of the Professional Footballers' Association, Hazard follows Luis Suarez in becoming Player of the Year after the Uruguayan won in 2014.

Hazard has been phenomenal this season. He has arguably been the best player in a Blues side who look a shoo-in for the Premier League title.

The 24-year-old has scored 13 goals and assisted eight in the English top flight this term, per WhoScored.com, often netting at crucial times—see his strike in Chelsea's recent 1-0 win over United.

As B/R UK's Sam Tighe noted on the release of the shortlist, Hazard was the only real option to take away the coveted Player of the Year award this season:

He has been the best player, for the best team. And although the likes of De Gea, Sanchez and Kane have all had fine seasons, Hazard has made a title-winning contribution.

WhoScored.com highlighted his stellar numbers:

This is the third year in a row that Hazard has been nominated for the award. Now, he has finally triumphed, a testament to his continued improvement.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will no doubt hope that Hazard stays on this upward curve, as the Blues go in search of further glory next season.
