Tracking Qualified Teams for 2015-16 Champions League and Europa League

Gianni VerschuerenApr 20, 2015

Most of the 2014-15 domestic campaigns around Europe are slowly coming to an end, with several teams having already secured qualification for next year's UEFA Champions League and Europa League tournaments.

Tracking the qualified teams has become slightly more tricky this year, due to changes in regulation. The winner of the 2014-15 Europa League will be granted entry into next year's Champions League, and as explained on the UEFA's official website, a higher emphasis will be placed on league performances, rather than cup winners.

Below is an updated list of all the clubs that have already qualified for either the Champions League or Europa League. If a team is marked with an asterisk, it means they have already secured a spot in the latter but can still qualify for the former.

Next year's Europa League teams:

Note: Paris Saint-Germain have already booked a spot in the third qualifying round of the Europa League by winning the Coupe de la Ligue, but they are likely to qualify for the Champions League with a top-three finish in Ligue 1. Entry into the group stages of the Europa League is also still a possibility.

Champions League

Only one Premier League club has qualified for next year's Champions League so far, as likely champions Chelsea will finish in the top four and ensure a spot in either the final play-off round or the group stages.

As shared by Goal.com, it's all part of Jose Mourinho's masterplan for the club, and it will be interesting to see whether the Portuguese manager can take the club to the next level:

Four Bundesliga clubs have already secured their spot, as Bayern Munich have secured the German title and Wolfsburg, Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen are certain to finish in the top four.

Die Wolfe could have qualified by beating Napoli in the Europa League quarter-finals, but suffered a shock home loss to the Italians, who are still battling for a ticket for next year's tournament.. Even Marek Hamsik couldn't believe the outcome of that match at the time, via Football Italia:

Over in Portugal, Porto and Benfica will surely finish in the top three of their league, with one club going straight to the group stages and one entering the final play-off round. The Portuguese league will send two clubs to the group stages and one into the play-offs, but finishing places have yet to be determined.

PSV Eindhoven celebrated the Eredivisie title on Sunday, April 19 and will qualify as Dutch champions. The same goes for Olympiacos in Greece:

BATE Borisov and Astana rank among the biggest clubs that have already punched their ticket to the qualifying rounds.

Europa League

Belgium's Club Brugge remains the only club to have qualified for the Europa League group stages by winning the Belgian cup, but a top-two finish in the Belgian League would see the team qualify for the Champions League instead.

PSG have already secured a spot in the third qualifying round, while the likes of Dinamo Minsk and Rosenborg will have to start in the first qualifying round.
