Silva Fit to Play vs. Aston Villa
Friday, April 24
Manager Manuel Pellegrini said that Silva would be fit to play Aston Villa on Saturday, according to Manchester City's official Twitter feed.
On April 21, City's official website reported Silva's reappearance on Tuesday, posting a "thumbs up" picture from the Spaniard. "The club will continue to monitor his progress ahead of the weekend, and Manuel Pellegrini will have a full update in Friday's pre-match press conference," reads the report.
Kouyate tweeted an apology after this article went live:
Tests Reveal Lack of Fracture
Monday, April 20
City were relieved to learn that scan results on Monday showed Silva did not suffer a fracture to his cheekbone as a result of his coming-together with Kouyate, according to Sky Sports.
Manager Pellegrini can now hope for a rapid return to action for the Spaniard.
City's official Twitter account noted the game had to be halted for some time as Silva was attended to during Sunday's encounter:
Kyle Bonn of NBC Sports added:
West Ham manager Sam Allardyce backed up that assertion with comments after the match, via Sky Sports, saying: "I've just had a look now because everybody is talking about it. Everybody thinks it is a more serious attack from Cheikhou than it was. It doesn't look deliberate at all to me."
Silva was well enough to update fans on his condition via Twitter after the match:
His loss would certainly have been a huge one, especially with City looking to hold off Liverpool for fourth place in the Premier League and the final UEFA Champions League berth.
Silva's been excellent again in the 2014-15 season, scoring 11 goals, adding four assists and earning a 7.44 average match rating from WhoScored.com in 26 Premier League appearances.
He's once again proved to be one of the club's most vital players, and his health going forward will be of the utmost concern for City.
