Also included were comments from David Tyler, the CEO of organizers Relevent Sports, about the United States' interest in the budding summer tournament. Tyler said:
"The last two years have demonstrated the thirst for soccer in the United States. The clubs participating in the International Champions Cup this year are some of the most storied and well-known in the entire world. Through our tournament and commitment to putting the best product and teams on the pitch, we will continue to grow soccer both domestically and abroad.
"
The ICC began in 2013 as a chance to bring marquee clubs together with some North American sides for a major summer showcase. The timing makes it perfect for European clubs to use it as preparation for their new campaigns.
Real Madrid won the inaugural title with a victory over Chelsea in the first championship match. Last year, it was Manchester United edging Premier League rivals Liverpool for the crown.
Obviously, there is no shortage of contenders in this year's field. Further details about the schedule and locations for the matches will be announced at a later date.
