Liverpool Not Expected to Investigate Sterling

Tuesday, April 14

Sky Sports reported that Sterling is not expected to be the subject of an investigation after he was shown allegedly using nitrous oxide.

Sterling will also avoid any sort of discipline for the allegations that he inhaled shisha pipes, according to Mike Whalley of ESPN FC.

Earlier, Mark Ogden of The Telegraph reported Sterling "is set to escape disciplinary action" after the "laughing gas" incident. He suggests a "paternal discussion" between the player and manager Brendan Rodgers has taken place instead of "a more formal encounter involving disciplinary action."

Footage was released by The Sun's Chloe Mayer and Dean Wilkins on Monday, and comes just days after the 20-year-old was seemingly photographed smoking a shisha pipe, per The Telegraph:

As reported by the Mirror's David Anderson, Liverpool were quick to confirm the situation will be dealt with: "We are aware of the story and intend to speak to the player. Any subsequent action will be taken internally."

Sterling netted the opener during Liverpool's 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday, and they now sit just four points back from fourth-placed Manchester City in the race for the Champions League spots.

It remains unclear as to whether Sterling will stay at Liverpool for next season. He continues to stall on signing a new contract, and he has come under fire for failing to put pen to paper at the Merseyside outfit, per Metro's Tom Olver.

B/R UK's James McNicholas recently discussed a potential move to Arsenal for Sterling over the summer:

But while Sterling continues to perform on the pitch, controversy seems to be following him away from play. It remains to be seen if such indiscretions will have a major role in whether he stays or goes in the summer.
