Tim Duncan Passes Kevin Garnett for 14th on All-Time Points List
San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan passed Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett for sole possession of 14th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list during Sunday's 107-91 win over the Phoenix Suns, per NBA.com/Stats.
Duncan entered the game with 25,937 career points, needing just 13 more to surpass Garnett's 25,949.
The 38-year-old future Hall of Famer piled up nine points by halftime and then moved past Garnett with about eight minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Duncan ultimately finished the night with 22 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks, two steals and a turnover, topping 20 points in consecutive games for only the second time all season.
He had 29 points and 10 boards in Friday's 104-103 win over the Houston Rockets, as he's clearly taken advantage of the Spurs' tight race for playoff seeding to put up some of his gaudiest stat lines of the year.
While it's still technically possible for Garnett to overtake Duncan on the all-time points list, it seems the only way that will happen is if the latter decides to retire while the former keeps on playing.
Should he come back for another season, Duncan will likely improve his standing on some of the major all-time lists, as he already ranks eighth in rebounds (14,634) and sixth in blocks (2,941).
