10 Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend

Ryan BaileyApr 12, 2015

Last weekend, this golazo ranking was dominated by Premier League goals. This weekend, England's top flight doesn't provide any entries—although Jonjo Shelvey might have been in contention if this wasn't disallowed. Such is the ebb and flow of world football.

Honourable mentions this week go to Hakan Calhanoglu for yet another stunning free-kick, Youri Tielemans for his outstanding effort for Anderlecht and Valentin Stocker for his beauty against Hannover

Now, let us proceed with the ranking...

10. Ever Banega (Sevilla) vs. Barcelona

1 of 10

Barcelona conceded two points in the title race when they gave up a two-goal lead at Sevilla to earn a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

Both of Barcelona's goals were world-class: Neymar's free-kick was wonderful, and Lionel Messi unleashed one of his trademark left-footed curlers. But the best goal in Andalusia that day was surely Ever Banega's powerful drive to beat Claudio Bravo in the 38th minute.

9. Dillon Serna (Colorado Rapids) vs. FC Dallas

2 of 10

The Colorado Rapids went to Texas and put four unanswered goals past Dallas on Friday evening, suggesting that their MLS campaign may be considerably better than last year's (when they finished second bottom of the Western Conference with eight wins and 18 losses).

The pick of the crop was Dillon Serna's wonderful long-ranger in the 85th minute, which flew into the net from around 30 yards to underline an emphatic victory.

8. Antonio Candreva (Lazio) vs. Empoli

3 of 10

Lazio's Champions League aspirations were given a huge boost with a 4-0 win over Empoli on Sunday.

Shortly before half-time, Antonio Candreva showcased the kind of golazo that Europe's premier competition might witness next season when he pinged an unstoppable shot into the top-left corner.

Jagiellonia Bialystok were felled 2-0 at Polish Ekstraklasa rivals Pogon Szczecin on Saturday, thanks to an unanswered brace from Lukasz Zwolinski.

The 22-year-old forward's first goal had a bit of a scrappy set-up, but the 64th-minute strike turned out to be an unstoppable left-footed volley over the goalkeeper and six helpless white shirts.

6. Kazuhiro Sato (Zweigen Kanazawa) vs. Cerezo Osaka

5 of 10

Those who do not pay close attention to the Japanese second tier may not be aware that promotion rivals Cereza Osaka and Zweigen Kanazawa squared off on Saturday.

Kanazawa emerged 2-0 victors, thanks in part to a sweetly struck opener from 24-year-old Kazuhiro Sato in the 38th minute.

5. Joshua Brenet (PSV Eindhoven)

6 of 10

PSV consolidated their 10-point lead at the top of the Eredivisie with a 3-1 victory over PEC Zwolle on Friday evening.

In the 50th minute, defender Joshua Brenet scored his first senior goal with a delectable volley. Zwolle keeper Warner Hahn could do little but watch it sail past him.

4. Orbelin Pineda (Queretaro) vs. Tijuana

7 of 10

Qeueretaro wrapped up a 2-1 victory over Liga MX rivals Tijuana just before the stroke of half-time with a magical half-volley

With the ball bobbling in his direction, midfielder Orbelin Pineda perfectly struck his shot from the edge of the area to lob the keeper and earn three points.

Elsewhere in the game, some chap named Ronaldinho also showed some silky skills.

3. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) vs. Frankfurt

8 of 10

Bayern Munich moved a step closer to lifting the Bundesliga title for the 25th time with a 3-0 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Robert Lewandowski got on the scoresheet twice, with his first strike proving to be a stunning volley that the Polish striker teed up for himself by looping the ball over an unsuspecting defender.

2. German Denis (Atalanta) vs. Sassuolo

9 of 10

Most goals that feature in this ranking are individual works of art, but Atalanta's beautiful strike in their 2-1 win at Sassuolo was the result of three sublime touches.

In the 42nd minute, German Denis turned in a wonderful overhead kick after a lovely flick from Luca Cigarini and a header from Max Moralez.

This will surely be among the Serie A goal-of-the-season contenders.

1. Chory Castro (Real Sociedad) vs. Deportivo La Coruna

10 of 10

David Moyes' teams aren't renowned for playing beautiful football, but Real Sociedad's second goal in their 2-2 draw with Depor on Sunday was about as beautiful as they come.

Sergio Canales delivered a long ball from the right flank, which Gonzalo "Chory" Castro volleyed straight into the back of the net.

The Uruguayan's third league goal of the season will be a standout moment on his career highlight reel.
