Thursday Recap

Athletic Bilbao attacker Aritz Aduriz struck at the death to seal a 1-1 draw against Valencia on Thursday, preventing Nuno Espirito Santo's side from closing the gap on Atletico Madrid in third.

Los Che took a 1-0 lead at San Mames following Rodrigo De Paul's opener, but Nicolas Otamendi's red card changed the landscape of the game and left David Cartlidge of beIN Sports' questioning the referees' decision:

Aduriz trickled in a 90th-minute equaliser for the hosts to keep Valencia three points off fourth, while the Lions cement their place in eighth with their point in hand.

There was hysteria at El Madrigal, where Villarreal slumped to a shocking 3-0 home defeat against Espanyol, where the travelling party left Bleacher Report's Samuel Marsden in awe:

Felipe Caicedo was in inspired form as he bagged two of Espanyol's three goals—Victor Sanchez bagging the other—to thrust Espanyol up three places into ninth place as a result of their three-point haul.

Thursday's other encounter saw Elche slip to a 1-0 defeat at home to Getafe, with Pablo Franco Martin's side sealing back-to-back wins in La Liga for the first time this season.

Wednesday Recap

Lionel Messi was on target and Luis Suarez bagged a double as Luis Enrique's Barca ticked off one more win against Almeria as they home in on the La Liga title.

The Argentine broke a three-match scoring duck—lengthy by his ludicrous standards—to open the scoring with a curling strike into the corner in the 33rd minute.

Messi's strike came after considerable pressure from the home side, and they should arguably have led by more than one goal at the break.

Suarez made it 2-0 10 minutes after the break, drilling a fine finish into the top corner, and Marc Bartra's headed third from a Xavi corner wrapped things up.

Almeria's Thomas had a stunning overhead kick ruled out in the dying minutes, and to add insult to injury, Suarez scored again moments later, finishing off a quick Barca counter-attack.

As Squawka notes, Barcelona's phenomenal form continues, and they will be hard to stop as they go for the league title, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League:

Their closest rivals in the league continue to be Real, and Los Blancos eventually ran out easy 2-0 winners at Rayo, despite the hosts having the better of the play in the first half.

Carlo Ancelotti's men improved after the break and should have had a penalty when Cristiano Ronaldo was felled in the area, per Ladbrokes:

The Portuguese superstar got his goal—Real's first—in the end, though, as he headed home in the 68th minute after fine work down the right from Dani Carvajal.

In terms of the title race, it was a huge goal, as Rayo had threatened often on a difficult night for Real, and Iker Casillas was called into action on more than one occasion.

James Rodriguez wrapped things up in the 74th minute, as he curled home a low left-footed strike, and Real will be looking to Sevilla to take points of Barca in the upcoming round of matches with Los Blancos hosting Eibar.

Granada looked to have responded in the best way possible to their weekend travails—they were thrashed 9-1 by Real—as they led 1-0 at home after 90 minutes against Celta de Vigo.

However, Theo Bongonda equalised for the visitors in stoppage time, cancelling out Robert Ibanez's third-minute goal, with Jeison Murillo having been sent off just before half-time.

Relegation battling pair Deportivo La Coruna and Cordoba shared the points on Wednesday as they played out a 1-1 draw, with Florin Andone scoring at both ends.

Tuesday Recap

Having endured something of a rough patch of late, Griezmann continued his rampage back to form on Tuesday by putting the nail in Real Sociedad's coffin en route to a 2-0 victory.

Mikel Gonzalez put the goal in his own net before Griezmann doubled Atleti's lead, with the club's official Twitter account confirming their star's improving standards in Madrid:

It took Griezmann some time to get his Atletico career up and running, but Simeone may well look forward to seeing his attacker enjoy more complete scoring campaigns in the years to come.

Revelling in the midweek win, the France international says Atleti are ready for a Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid next week, per Miles Chambers of Goal.com:

"

Atletico are doing well again. Now we have consistency we need to keep this form going. We're feeling strong, we know that with our third consecutive clean sheet we are giving ourselves more of a chance of winning.

It is normal in a season to have ups and downs. Hopefully our dip has passed and we can go on to fight to win the Champions League.

"

Still looking to throw their hat in the mix for next season's Champions League comes Sevilla, who also managed to triumph on Tuesday with a 2-1 win at Levante.

The three points pull Unai Emery's men level on points with Valencia in fourth, with Phil Kitromilides of Real Madrid TV detailing what a rampant side they've been of late:

Jose Antonio Reyes and Kevin Gameiro provided the goals for Emery's men, who survived a late bit of defiance from the hosts to emerge victorious at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia.

Meanwhile, Malaga's woes worsened with a 1-0 defeat at Eibar, who claimed their first victory in 12 games on Tuesday night and climbed to 14th in the standings.
