David Luiz Injury: Updates on PSG Star's Hamstring and Return

David Luiz suffered a hamstring injury on April 5 while featuring for Paris Saint-Germain against bitter rivals Marseille. He was expected to miss both Champions League matches against Barcelona. However, he has returned to the team as a substitution in the first leg against Barcelona.

Luiz Returns Off the Bench vs. Barcelona

SPORT English reported on Luiz's return, as he replaced the injured Thiago Silva in the first half of the matchup vs. Barcelona.

Earlier, Jonathan Johnson of ESPN FC confirmed that Luiz was available off the bench against Barcelona.

Johnson reported on Tuesday that Luiz was "fit enough to feature" against Barcelona, calling the news an "unexpected boost to say the least."

On April 12, Johnson suggested that Luiz could make a return in time for the second leg:

On April 6, SPORT English reported that Luiz was "set to miss both Champions League games against Barcelona."    

The former Chelsea player went down midway through the first half against Marseille, with PSG confirming the injury, per Twitter:

Johnson confirmed Luiz might have suffered a serious muscular injury, and Eurosport's Valentina Clemente added (via Johnson) that tests would determine his status:

Manager Laurent Blanc immediately substituted the player. 

Luiz, 27, has been a major component of PSG's drive in Ligue 1 this season, appearing 22 times, per WhoScored.com.
