Arsenal vs. Liverpool

While both of these teams have suffered disappointing defeats to respective bitter rivals in 2015, all in all, the Gunners and the Reds have been the best two sides to watch in the Premier League this year. With the hunt for a top-four spot set to add a little bit of spice to the occasion, expect an engrossing 90 minutes at the Emirates.
Bleacher Report’s Andy Brassell took a look at how important this game is for both:
It’s Liverpool who arguably need the win more than the Gunners in this one. Their loss to Manchester United in their previous league game means they are five points off the Champions League spots; a defeat here would push Arsenal nine points clear of the Merseysiders and give United the chance to go eight points clear later in the day.
Brendan Rodgers had some positive news for Liverpool supporters ahead of this one, however, per the Liverpool Echo:
While Daniel Sturridge’s fitness represents a major boost for the Reds, much of the focus coming into this one has been on Raheem Sterling.
The player has been linked with a move to the Gunners amidst a contract wrangle with Liverpool, per John Cross of the Daily Mirror, and it’ll be intriguing to see just how well the 20-year-old fares in this encounter after the spotlight that’s been on him this week.

As noted by Sky Sports News HQ, Sterling has been an influential figure for the Reds this season:
Arsenal will have a bit too much for Liverpool in this one, however. In the league, Arsene Wenger’s side have won their last six games in succession and eight in a row at the Emirates, making them the form team in the division. As such, they’ll be bristling with confidence coming into this one and that should show over the course of 90 minutes.
Prediction: Arsenal 3-1 Liverpool
Sunderland vs. Newcastle United

Dick Advocaat faces the unenviable challenge of having to haul this toiling Sunderland team out of the mire, but this Tyne-Wear derby against eternal rivals Newcastle United represents a perfect opportunity for the Black Cats to pick up some vital momentum as they look to stave off relegation.
Despite the importance of this game, the new manager is looking forward to the challenger, per the club’s official Twitter account:
Sunderland are just one point above the drop zone coming into this weekend and will need to muster some major fight if they’re to get out of this predicament. While Burnley—the team directly below them—seem to have an underpinning fortitude that can potentially push them away from trouble, the Blacks Cats are devoid of confidence.
The home side seem to have an edge over their local rivals in recent fixtures, however, as noted here by Sky Sports Football:
Indeed, a late Adam Johnson winner helped Sunderland to a win at St. James’ Park earlier in the season, making it four wins in succession in this derby. But of all the recent games between the two sides in recent years, this one is the most important for the side in red and white.

While derby matches can be horrid for supporters, Newcastle could be the ideal opponents for the Black Cats. A lot associated with Sunderland have become increasingly disillusioned with the way in which things are going at the club, but there’s nothing like the visit of the Magpies to foster some spirit and get everyone united behind a cause.
John Carver’s side—marooned in mid-table— look as though they’re willing the season to end as well, too. As such, expect Sunderland to triumph in a tight, scrappy encounter.
Prediction: Sunderland 1-0 Newcastle United
