B/R Experts Predict Top Matches in World Football for Weekend of April 4-5

Ian RodgersApr 2, 2015

Club football returns to the schedule this weekend after the international break with a number of intriguing encounters for our experts to consider.

Borussia Dortmund are on the rise again after a dreadful opening half to the Bundesliga season, but the arrival of archrivals Bayern Munich on Saturday will be a genuine test of their recent improvement.

The two in-form sides of the Premier League go head-to-head on Saturday when Liverpool travel to north London to face Arsenal.

The race to finish second behind Serie A champions-elect Juventus continues this weekend with second-placed Roma entertaining Napoli, who are fifth.

There is a top-of-the-table clash to watch in France where Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain make the trip south to face Marseille.

In the Eredivisie, both AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord still harbour hopes of catching second-placed Ajax to claim a Champions League spot, and the two line up at the AFAS Stadion.

Do you agree with our experts' predictions for this weekend? Let us know in the comments below.

Arsenal vs. Liverpool

1 of 6

Alex Livie: Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool

First goalscorer: Aaron Ramsey

Liverpool's fine run of form came to a halt against Manchester United, and their push for the top four will take another hit at the hands of Arsenal.

Karl Matchett: Arsenal 1-2 Liverpool

First goalscorer: Olivier Giroud

Liverpool have to win if they want a top-four spot, so I might as well hop aboard the optimism bus. That’s all.

Sam Tighe: Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool

First goalscorer: Olivier Giroud

Liverpool's Champions League hopes suffer another hefty blow with a loss to Arsenal.

Will Tidey: Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool

First goalscorer: Raheem Sterling

Liverpool to strike early in this classic fixture, with Arsenal to reply and a predictable draw the outcome at the Emirates.

Mike Cummings: Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool

First goalscorer: Olivier Giroud

Can't see past a score-draw in this one, with Giroud keeping up his fine run of scoring form. The top-four race is set to go down to the wire.

Roma vs. Napoli

2 of 6

Alex Livie: Roma 1-0 Napoli

First goalscorer: Gervinho

Both sides are lagging behind Juventus, but Roma are comfortably the second-best side in Serie A and will take the points.

Karl Matchett: Roma 1-0 Napoli

First goalscorer: Adem Ljajic

Roma's season has totally imploded, but they need to keep the challengers to second place at arm's length. That means a win.

Sam Tighe: Roma 1-1 Napoli

First goalscorer: Gonzalo Higuain

Two teams who couldn't look more likely to draw with each other. Both lose ground in the race for second.

Will Tidey: Roma 2-0 Napoli

First goalscorer: Francesco Totti

Roma to end their miserable home run with a win against Napoli. Totti, as ever, to score.

Mike Cummings: Roma 1-0 Napoli

First goalscorer: Gervinho

Napoli won the return fixture 2-0 last November, and Roma will be hoping to return the favour as they seek to solidify second place.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich

3 of 6

Alex Livie: Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Bayern Munich

First goalscorer: Ciro Immobile

There's no doubting who is the best side in the Bundesliga, but even the best are beatable, and Dortmund will take the points here.

Karl Matchett: Borussia Dortmund 3-2 Bayern Munich

First goalscorer: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

BVB's improvement is obvious, and they'll be well up for taking on Bayern, whose lead at the top could be down to a minuscule seven points after the game.

Sam Tighe: Borussia Dortmund 1-3 Bayern Munich

First goalscorer: Thomas Muller

No Arjen Robben and no David Alaba, but the Bayern machine rolls on. Dortmund can't stop it.

Will Tidey: Borussia Dortmund 1-2 Bayern Munich

First goalscorer: Thomas Muller

Bayern losing last time out will have them more fired up than usual. They win this one, with Thomas Muller the hero.

Mike Cummings: Borussia Dortmund 1-2 Bayern Munich

First goalscorer: Thomas Muller

Bayern lost last time out, but don't expect that to happen again. Both sides will be up for it, with the atmosphere sure to be intense for Der Klassiker, but Bayern's quality will give them the edge.

Marseille vs. PSG

4 of 6

Alex Livie: Marseille 0-2 PSG

First goalscorer: Javier Pastore

A classic encounter and the defending champions can keep their push for Ligue 1 glory on track.

Karl Matchett: Marseille 2-2 PSG

First goalscorer: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Marcelo Bielsa isn't quite going to lead Marseille to the title, but his side are capable of stopping others doing so.

Sam Tighe: Marseille 2-1 PSG

First goalscorer: Michy Batshuayi

PSG's away form is sketchy, and they haven't won two league games in a row for some time.

Will Tidey: Marseille 1-2 PSG

First goalscorer: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan is on good goalscoring form and will relish the nature of this clash. PSG to edge it.

Mike Cummings: Marseille 1-2 PSG

First goalscorer: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

PSG's away form in Ligue 1 is not good, and Marseille are fully capable of winning. But with the end of the campaign in sight, Laurent Blanc's men will raise their game in a tight contest.

AZ Alkmaar vs. Feyenoord

5 of 6

Alex Livie: AZ Alkmaar 1-2 Feyenoord

First goalscorer: Colin Kazim-Richards

Feyenoord head into the game with a four-point advantage over AZ, and they can reinforce their position of third in the Eredivisie.

Karl Matchett: AZ Alkmaar 1-2 Feyenoord

First goalscorer: Colin Kazim-Richards

A decent battle between the sides aiming for the automatic Europa League spot, but Feyenoord's good defence on the road can see them win.

Sam Tighe: AZ Alkmaar 1-2 Feyenoord

First goalscorer: Lex Immers

Feyenoord make it four wins in a row as they continue to push Ajax for second in the Eredivisie.

Will Tidey: AZ Alkmaar 1-3 Feyenoord

First goalscorer: Anass Achahbar

Achahbar's hot form to continue with a goal or more in this Feyenoord win.

Mike Cummings: AZ Alkmaar 1-3 Feyenoord

First goalscorer: Colin Kazim-Richards

AZ sit only four points behind Feyenoord, but the hosts have been leaking lots of goals of late. That trend continues in an away win.
