Taylor Expelled from Alabama

Thursday, April 2

Taylor will not have the opportunity to be reinstated to the Alabama football team, as the university has decided to expel the defensive lineman, with no opportunity for readmission, according to ESPN's Paul Finebaum

Earlier in the day, Michael Casagrande of AL.com reported that Taylor's lawyer, Kim Stephens, wanted the defensive lineman reinstated to the Alabama football team:

"

I certainly would hope so. My thought, from an outside perspective, in light of all the backlash, that coach Saban and university took as a result of the false accusations that were made and the removal from the team, I think it would be hard for him to take (Taylor) back on the team in spite of the recantation.

But I think fairness would dictate that they'd reconsider and at least talk to the accuser or former accuser in the case, then make a decision based on that.

"

Stephanie Taylor of The Tuscaloosa News reported that Taylor's accuser suspected him of infidelity and fabricated the claims against him, according to court documents.

ESPN's Chris Low reported that Saban knew of the recanted story prior to expelling Taylor.

On April 1, Aaron Suttles of the Tuscaloosa News reported a new development in the Taylor case, as his accuser had recanted her claims against the defensive lineman:

Taylor Arrested on Mischief, Domestic Violence Charges

Tuesday, March 31

Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News reported the news.

Hurt posted a copy of the news release from the Tuscaloosa Police Department showing Taylor's mugshot and the charges levied against him:

"UA is aware of the incident. The student has been referred to judicial affairs," the school announced, per Matt Zenitz of AL.com. On Sunday, Alabama dismissed him from the team, also via Zenitz.

Nick Saban commented on Taylor on Monday, per Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "I'm not sorry for giving him an opportunity; I'm sorry for the way it worked out."

He also talked about if 'Bama will change how it recruits players in the wake of this situation, via D.C. Reeves of The Tuscaloosa News:

Former and current Alabama players Kenny Bell, Chris Black, Kenyan Drake and Reggie Ragland shared their thoughts following the news:

The Georgia Bulldogs dismissed Taylor from the team last July after he was charged with .

He enrolled at Alabama after spending time at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. At the time, Crimson Tide athletic director Bill Battle released a statement regarding the decision to bring Taylor to the school, per Edward Aschoff and Mark Schlabach of ESPN.com:

"

In this particular situation, we thoroughly investigated numerous sources regarding the young man. I had extensive discussions with several people who have been very close to him, including a lengthy visit with this young man. Our coaches and I feel he is worthy of a second chance at completing his college football career at this level, and that he fully understands the position in which he has placed himself.

"

In March of 2014, Taylor was also one of four Bulldogs players charged with theft by deception.

He figured to be a key member of the Alabama defense in 2015. Drew Champlin of AL.com wrote in February that Taylor projected to be the Crimson Tide's starting nose guard following Brandon Ivory's graduation.
