Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Iker Casillas Potential Summer Exit

Rob BlanchetteMar 27, 2015

Real Madrid are said to be preparing for the departure of legendary goalkeeper Iker Casillas as they focus on the capture of Manchester United's David De Gea.

Miguel Delaney of ESPN FC reports that Spanish sources say the Bernabeu hero will be shown the exit door by Los Blancos President Florentino Perez: "The mood around Real is very much that Casillas will leave this summer."

Delaney also cites El Confidencial's thoughts that Casillas' removal will be stage-managed by the Galacticos due to his status within the club and "the delicate nature of the situation."

Casillas could be due to receive "€3.5 million in bonuses, on top of the €22 million for a contract that is set to end in 2017," per El Confidential (h/t Delaney).

The 33-year-old has experienced a renaissance this season, appearing 25 times in La Liga this term after hardly playing last year, per WhoScored.com.

However, Casillas captained the club to their recent La Decima Champions League success despite being overlooked in the domestic title race, and he has recaptured his billing as No. 1.

But his performances have not been exemplary, and it is clear that his career at the highest level is nearly over.

De Gea is yet to agree a new deal at United, and he has arguably been the best goalkeeper in Europe over the past 18 months.

His stock is rising rapidly, so Madrid will surely be looking to capture the player before he is tempted by the big wages on offer at Old Trafford.

De Gea is the future of the Spanish national team, and Perez knows any move for the player must happen soon to make it as economically viable as possible.
