B/R Experts Predict Top Matches in World Football for Weekend of March 28-29

Alex LivieMar 26, 2015

International football takes centre stage this weekend, with key Euro 2016 qualifiers leading the way.

The road to France is likely to be difficult for some sides, and results this weekend could go a long way to determining which teams will qualify.

The matches look tricky, but our experts have made their predictions in the following slides.

Republic of Ireland vs. Poland

1 of 3

Alex Dimond: Republic of Ireland 1-2 Poland

First goalscorer: Robert Lewandowski

The visitors might just have too much quality for Martin O'Neill's side.

Alex Livie: Republic of Ireland 0-0 Poland

It's extremely tight at the top of Group D. Poland are better placed at this stage and a point will suit them well.

Karl Matchett: Republic of Ireland 1-2 Poland

First Goalscorer: Robert Lewandowski

The Republic of Ireland have to win to have much chance of being involved in the top two. This defeat leaves them hoping for the play-off place instead and Poland top.

Michael Cummings: Republic of Ireland 1-1 Poland

First Goalscorer: Robert Lewandowski

Poland are the surprise leaders in Group D, and they deserve it after beating Germany last October. But no teams will be surprised by the Poles now, and winning in Ireland will be tough.

Sam Tighe: Republic of Ireland 2-2 Poland

First Goalscorer: Arkadiusz Milik

When Martin O'Neill is involved, there are always goals. ROI will both score and concede in an entertaining game.

Will Tidey: Republic of Ireland 1-0 Poland

First Goalscorer: Robbie Keane

The Irish badly need a win here, and I'm predicting they'll sneak one, with Robbie Keane grabbing the winner.

Portugal vs. Serbia

2 of 3

Alex Dimond: Portugal 2-2 Serbia

First goalscorer: Cristiano Ronaldo

Portugal's high-powered attack against a quality, well-organized Serbia defence will produce a draw as the most likely outcome.

Alex Livie: Portugal 3-1 Serbia

First Goalscorer: Nani

Portugal don't always make things easy for themselves in qualifying, but they can take an important step on the road to France here.

Karl Matchett: Portugal 1-0 Serbia

First Goalscorer: Cristiano Ronaldo

A narrow win will leave Portugal looking good for the top spot, though not exactly a cut above the rest of the group.

Michael Cummings: Portugal 1-1 Serbia

First Goalscorer: Cristiano Ronaldo

No team—at any level—can really stop Cristiano Ronaldo from scoring. But even he isn't always enough to lift Portugal in international competitions.

Sam Tighe: Portugal 2-1 Serbia

First Goalscorer: Vieirinha

Serbia are a strong side but too many of their players look either tired or out of form. Portugal, buoyed by in-form Vieirinha, will take advantage.

Will Tidey: Portugal 2-0 Serbia

First Goalscorer: Cristiano Ronaldo

Portugal will make business-like progress with a 2-0 win here. Ronaldo, obviously, will score.
