European Team of the Week: Harry Kane and Zlatan Ibrahimovic Together at Last

Jeremy Menez stars as the player of the week in the WhoScored.com European team of the week this time around, courtesy of a brace in AC Milan's 3-1 win over Cagliari—taking his tally for the season to 15.

The Frenchman secured a perfect 10 out of 10 rating having also picked up an assist from one of his four key passes, while he also completed three dribbles and won four tackles in a superb all-round display.

Manchester United's Juan Mata lines up on the opposite flank having proved decisive in the Red Devils' crucial 2-1 victory over fierce rivals Liverpool. The Spaniard netted with two superbly taken strikes—from his only two efforts at goal—completed two dribbles and also weighed in defensively with four interceptions for a man-of-the-match rating of 8.96.

At the heart of the midfield there was also a brace for Riccardo Saponara, with the AC Milan loanee playing a key role in Empoli's 3-1 win over Sassuolo. The 23-year old was in the mood all afternoon, firing off five attempts at goal, completing four dribbles and registering an assist for substitute Levan Mchedlidze's second-half strike.

The Italian is joined in midfield by compatriot Marco Verratti, who sparkled to secure a WhoScored rating of 9.64. The PSG pass-master had 123 touches against Lorient, providing an assist from three key passes, while also producing a match high of eight tackles and four interceptions, as well as a clearance off the line in a 3-1 win for Laurent Blanc's side.

Such was the dominance of Verratti's midfield display that he edged Zlatan Ibrahimovic to secure WhoScored's man-of-the-match award, despite the Swede netting all three of PSG's goals on Friday night.

The striker unsurprisingly takes his place in the team of the week, as five of his six attempts at goal hit the target, including two converted penalties, while a further two key passes earned Ibrahimovic a rating of 9.47.

Our strike pairing’s tally from the weekend is at six following Harry Kane's match-winning hat-trick against Leicester on Saturday, meaning the Englishman is now the joint top scorer in the Premier League (19). The 21-year old scored with all three of his shots on target and was typically industrious, winning two tackles and two interceptions to hunt down the Foxes from the front.

Taking the place at right-back in this week's best XI is Sevilla's Coke, who picked up a man-of-the-match rating of 9.26 in a crucial 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the race for European football in La Liga. The full-back opened the scoring with only his second goal of the season and proved a threat down his side to create two chances, while also making seven interceptions and seven clearances to help the away side keep a clean sheet.

FC Cologne's Jonas Hector lines up on the opposite side of the back four after an excellent offensive showing in a 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen. Profligate finishing from his team-mates meant that he failed to pick up an assist despite creating five chances on the day, while a further seven successful dribbles ensured opposing full-back Theodor Gebre Selassie had a busy afternoon.

Veteran centre-back Cesare Bovo put in a commanding display as Torino dispatched of Serie A basement dwellers Parma this weekend. The 32-year old had a busy night on Sunday nonetheless, with 101 touches including a massive nine interceptions and three blocks to keep the home side at bay, while also completing 92.5 percent of his pass attempts.

Nicolas Otamendi's fantastic debut season at Valencia continued at the weekend as the Argentine netted his third goal of the season from centre-back to help Los Che to a resounding 4-0 win over Elche. Otamendi completed the scoring in injury time having mustered three shots at goal over the course of the match, while producing three tackles, four interceptions and nine clearances for a man-of-the-match rating of 9.19.

This week's line-up is concluded by young German keeper Roman Burki, who takes his place between the posts having helped Freiburg to a clean sheet and subsequent 2-0 win over Augsburg. The 24-year old was forced into six saves, having more touches of the ball than any team-mate (61) to help Christian Streich's side move out of the relegation zone with a win to upset the odds against this season's surprise package in the Bundesliga.
