3 Morgan State Football Players Stabbed in On-Campus Incident

Three Morgan State football players were stabbed on Tuesday, according to reports.

It was the third violent incident police have responded to on campus in a week. The stabbings happened outside the entrance to a cafeteria about 2:05 p.m., after a suspect was observed with a knife, according to Clint Coleman, a university spokesman.

"Somebody pulled out a knife and just began swinging it widely," Coleman said.

A police spokesman said one victim was stabbed in the chest and taken to a hospital in very serious condition. Two other people were also injured. ... Coleman said he believed all three would survive.

Coleman told The Sun that police had a suspect in custody. According to the report, there was also a stabbing on campus on Friday, and there were multiple fights at a dance over the weekend after on-campus parties had been banned for a year following incidents at such events in the past.

It's certainly a scary way for the Morgan State football season to begin, as spring practices had just commenced on Tuesday for the Baltimore-based school. The program will be relieved that none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. But, of course, there will be major safety concerns at the school after two stabbing incidents in a matter of days.

At some point, the team will return to the business of beginning its preparations for another run in the NCAA FCS playoffs after last season's trip to the postseason. For now, however, the team's and school's primary focus will be the recovery of the students injured in this incident.
