Monday Recap

Only one fixture was on tap for Monday, and Real Sociedad defeated Getafe 1-0 to notch three critical points in distancing themselves from the unenviable relegation race.
Squawka Football captured Real Sociedad manager David Moyes and had an interesting anecdote about the club's season:
Inigo Martinez scored the lone goal of the day on a header in the 66th minute. After the win was secured, Martinez spoke about the match's significance and praised the play of his side's goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.
"We came here really up for a win and we hung on even though we suffered at times," said Martinez, per The Associated Press, via USA Today. "Our great goalkeeper is young and still able to get even better. This is a really important win for us."
It has been a bit of a rough go for Moyes following his short-lived stint at the helm of Premier League powerhouse Manchester United. Monday's victory away from Anoeta could provide some momentum moving forward, though.
The Royals will be favored against last-place Cordoba next week, and ought to have a great chance to make another leap in the table.
Getafe's immediate future forecast isn't as promising. They will travel to take on the reigning La Liga champion Atletico Madrid, who boast an 11-2-1 mark at Vicente Calderon Stadium this season.
Sunday Recap
Gareth Bale scored both goals as Real Madrid cruised to a 2-0 win over Levante on Sunday, preparing for next week's Clasico with an important victory.
Los Blancos' comfortable win was somewhat overshadowed by an odd incident preceding Bale's first goal. Team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo produced a fantastic overhead kick that was cleared off the line and was visibly disappointed when the ball didn't go in.
He continued punching the air in frustration even after Bale had blasted the ball into the net, a reaction that caused a lot of reaction online. Former England international Gary Lineker was none too pleased:
Incredibly enough, Bale's second gale could have been cause for much of the same. Ronaldo's angled drive appeared to be destined for the back of the net, but it took a slight touch along the way from the Wales international, and the goal was gifted to him.
BeIN Sports USA's Andres Cordero had some choice words for fans who continue to bicker over Bale's performances, compared to his star team-mate on the other wing:
Luka Modric's return to the pitch was filled with ups and downs, as he showed his class with a few passing moves but also looked rusty on occasion, running into a foolish yellow card.
AS' Nicholas Rigg is glad the Croatian got the mistakes out of his system on Sunday, instead of potentially storing them for next week's Clasico:
Real looked strong in the first half and comfortably played out the match after half-time, gaining some much-needed confidence heading into the vital meeting with leaders Barcelona next week.
Juanmi and Nordin Amrabat both scored in Malaga's 2-0 win over Cordoba. Following Villarreal's disappointing scoreless draw at Almeria, the gap between both clubs has now been reduced to just five points.
Malaga and Villarreal are involved in a fierce battle for the final Europa League ticket, and the former were certainly the big winners on Matchday 27. As reported by Inside Spanish Football's Heath Chesters, manager Javi Gracia was understandably pleased after the match:
"Whenever we lost the ball, we went looking to get it back in the rival half of the pitch. We haven’t let our opponents get forward with any level of comfort, so I’m very happy with the result.
We came into this game on the back of negative sensations and today we got ourselves back to who we really are. My players have been back to a level that’s expected of them.
"
Sevilla gained even more ground on defending champions Atletico Madrid in the race for third, after Carlos Bacca scored a brace and Kevin Gameiro added a late goal to beat Elche, 3-0.
As shared by SuperSport Blitz, they also took advantage of the Yellow Submarine dropping points:
One more match remains to be played in Week 27 on Monday, before all eyes turn toward Week 28 and arguably the most anticipated match of the season, as Barcelona host Real Madrid in a match that could decide the title race.
Saturday Recap
Barcelona continued their excellent run with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Eibar on Saturday, putting pressure on Real Madrid ahead of their La Liga clash against Levante on Sunday and next week's Clasico.
Lionel Messi scored both goals to take his tally to 32 for the season, prompting beIN Sports USA to wonder who can stop this Catalan train:
In truth, it wasn't the Blaugrana's best performance of the season, and slumping Eibar deserve a lot of credit in playing the league leaders so close.
But ultimately, Barcelona's quality shone through as the visitors recorded a fairly routine win, keeping their fantastic run going.
Looking ahead at the Clasico next week, the form of Messi, Luis Suarez and their team-mates should worry Real Madrid, who have struggled in recent weeks, via Goal:
The match was also a special occasion for club legend Xavi, who made his 750th appearance for the Catalans. Team-mate Marc Bartra told Barcastuff the veteran was truly deserving of the honour:
"Bartra: "Xavi plays 750th game for Barcelona? He deserves it. He's a true Barça fan. I feel honored to play with him." #fcblive

Atletico Madrid's bid to successfully defend their title took another hit on Saturday, as the Atleti struggled to a scoreless draw against Espanyol. Miranda was dismissed in the first half for a blatant elbow, and Diego Simeone's men once again seemed toothless in attack.
The defending champions have now drawn three consecutive matches, face a difficult match against Bayer Leverkusen in midweek and are all but out of the title race. But despite that, most attention will go to Miranda's horrific elbow, via beIN Sports USA:
Alberto Bueno continued his sensational season, netting twice in Rayo Vallecano's 3-1 win over Granada. The club from the capital are now almost certain of staying in La Liga beyond this season, riding their fantastic attack to a number of impressive performances.
Athletic Bilbao also continued their resurgence, holding on for a 2-1 win over Celta Vigo after scorer Mikel San Jose saw a late red card.
Friday Recap
Valencia surged back into third place on Friday evening after goals from Dani Parejo and substitute Paco Alcacer sealed their 2-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna.
Los Che now sit two points ahead of Atletico Madrid and just four points behind Real in second, although Los Rojiblancos will have their opportunity to reclaim third place when travelling to face Espanyol on Saturday.

It started out as a tense affair at the Mestalla in Week 27's opening fixture, where Valencia and Depor went in scoreless at the break, a result that would have been far more acceptable for the visiting side.
However, Parejo was given his chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot not long into the second period and converted from 12 yards out, per Spanish newspaper Sport:
Alvaro Negredo enjoyed a number of opportunities on the night but failed to make good. However, Alcacer was on hand to show him what a real predator's touch looks like.
Per Spanish writer Sergi Dominguez, the striker made his return from injury against Deportivo and took no time to extend Valencia's cushion mere seconds after entering the fray:
Having now gone five La Liga games without a win, Depor remain just one point off the bottom three and are at risk of falling into the relegation zone depending on the rest of this weekend's results.
Valencia, meanwhile, will hope Atleti drop points on their travels to Espanyol, looking to consolidate a place in the top three, happy to have welcomed Alcacer back in the best possible fashion.
