Mattiello Suffers Gruesome Leg Injury

Sunday, March 8

The 19-year-old—currently on loan with Chievo from Juventus—picked up a horrible knock after going in for a 50-50 tackle with Giallorossi star Radja Nainggolan.

The damage sustained left teammates and opponents noticeably disturbed as the youngster was carried off on a stretcher.

Here’s a look at the incident. **WARNING: video contains graphic footage of the injury**:

To see anyone suffer an injury of this nature is harrowing, but as noted by ESPN’s Janusz Michallik, it’s particularly disturbing for a talent as young as Mattiello:

As noted by Bleacher Report’s Matteo Bonetti, the youngster looks set to have a long recovery period ahead of him:

Nainggolan commented on the tackle that injured Mattiello following the game, via Football Italia:

"

“At the moment of the challenge I actually wanted a free kick in my favour, then looking over at the Chievo bench I realised there was an injury,” Nainggolan told Sky Sport Italia.

“I saw the footage after the game. My challenge was as tough as his, but his leg got stuck between mine as he fell. It’s a terrible shame, especially as he’s so young. I wish him all the best.”

"

Mattiello was making a rare start for the Gialloblu as he looks to find his way in Serie A. The Italian made his debut for the Bianconeri earlier in the season but was loaned out to gain some first-team experience. Sadly, it looks as though it’ll be a long time before he takes to the field again.
