Cristiano Ronaldo Tops Goal.com's List of World's Richest Footballers

Matt JonesMar 5, 2015

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the world’s richest footballer after it was reported the Real Madrid star now boasts a personal wealth of circa €210 million.

The “Goal Rich List,” per Kris Voakes of Goal.com, placed the Portuguese as the game’s most well-off player ahead of Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Neymar, who were second and third, respectively. Ronaldo topped the same standings last year but has reinforced his position over the past 12 months, according to the piece.

Here’s a look at the top four, per Mail Online Sport:

Naturally, the astounding monetary gains tie directly in to Ronaldo's exemplary displays on the field; here’s a look at a few highlights from 2014 for the Real Madrid man:

Indeed, according to Voakes’ piece, Ronaldo has received bonuses for helping Los Blancos to a coveted 10th European Cup in May last year as well as the Club World Cup in December. The 2014 Ballon d’Or winner also struck key commercial deals with a plethora of illustrious brands, including Toyota, Samsung and Herbalife.

Ronaldo signed a new deal with Madrid in 2013, and while the club haven't released any kind of official numbers regarding his annual salary, ESPNFC reported at the time that it was believed to be around €17 million per season.

While this accolade won’t mean much to the Madrid man—certainly not as much as team or individual honours directly associated with the game—the fact he’s gained such a sizable fortune is testament to his magnificent footballing skills.

As noted by Squawka Football, this season has been yet another one to remember for Ronaldo:

The last few weeks haven’t seen the 30-year-old at his best, but the money accrued in the previous 12 months is a sign of his unrelentingly high standards and a perennial marketability. But with Messi in serene form at the outset of 2015, it’ll be intriguing to see which particular player tops this particular standing in 2016.
