2015 NFL Free Agency: Rumors and Predictions for Top Players on Market

Daniel RogersMar 5, 2015

Teams have done their franchise tagging, and the first big move of the offseason has seemingly been finalized, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter and Mike Rodak. That can only mean one thing: It’s almost time for the feeding frenzy that is free agency.

While some teams (re: the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens), have built successful franchises with outstanding drafts, there are a number of teams that rely more on the free-agent market to pick up the pieces that turn their franchises around.

With a fair number of superstar-level talents on the market, this could be one of the most intriguing offseasons in years. Here are a few rumors and predictions as to where some of the best available players will be plying their trades at the start of next season.

Ndamukong Suh heads to Indianapolis

Here’s a bit of a scoop for you: Andrew Luck is a really good quarterback.

While that isn’t exactly breaking news, it is an established fact at this point, with the Colts quarterback leading his team to double-digit wins and a playoff berth in each of his first three seasons in the league.

But while Luck, along with young skill position players like T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief, has revitalised the offense, there are still some problems that need fixing on the other side of the ball. First and foremost is shoring up a suspect defensive front that was 18th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed last season.

With the memory of LeGarrette Blount’s 148-yard, three-touchdown performance in the AFC Championship fresh in their minds, the Colts are rumored to be looking to the highest-profile free agent on the market to help solidify things up front according to Yahoo's Rand Getlin (h/t SI.com).

Ndamukong Suh, arguably the game's best interior lineman, has hit the market after the Detroit Lions elected not to place the franchise tag on him. With Suh’s monstrous size and abilities, it almost feels like a match made in heaven for Indianapolis.

The price tag is going to be high, possibly exceeding $60 million according to Yahoo Sports, but the signing could very well be worth it. Suh led the league's best run defense while finishing the year with 53 tackles and 8.5 sacks of his own.

Teams are going to bid hard to sign Suh this offseason, but with the Colts’ interest and need at the position, don’t be surprised to see him head to Indianapolis this year.

Prediction: Suh signs with the Indianapolis Colts

Randall Cobb hits the open market

You have to feel for the Green Bay Packers on some level. After falling apart in the NFC Championship Game and allowing the Seattle Seahawks to mount an epic comeback, the Packers have to deal with the free agency of two of their top offensive players.

The one who will steal the most headlines is wide receiver Randall Cobb, who finished in the top 11 in the league in receiving yards and touchdowns last season. But it is the other, tackle Bryan Bulaga, who might make things more interesting for Green Bay.

With both players heading to free agency and not a ton of money to throw around, the Packers will likely have to let one of the two walk and make an incredibly difficult decision.

Do they allow a star receiver and elite red-zone target leave, or break up an offensive line that had a surprising turn as one of the league’s best in 2014?

At the end of the day, if the team decides to pay either, I think Bulaga will stay. The Packers offensive line suffered through early injuries and became one of the best units in football, something any team would be remiss to split up.

On the other hand, the Packers already have Jordy Nelson at wide receivernot to mention up-and-comer Davante Adamsto lighten the load if Cobb ends up leaving.

It won’t be the easiest choice to make, but I think it is pretty clear that Cobb, while a great talent and possibly the No. 1 receiver in this league, can be replaced in Green Bay. That likely means that he will sign somewhere else—potentially the Oakland Raiders, as reported by Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (h/t Levi Damien of SB Nation).

Prediction: Randall Cobb signs with the Oakland Raiders

Darrelle Revis gets paid by the Patriots

GLENDALE, AZ - FEBRUARY 01: Head coach Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots celebrates with Darrelle Revis #24 after defeating the Seattle Seahawks during Super Bowl XLIX at University of Phoenix Stadium on February 1, 2015 in Glendale, Arizona. T

For quite some time now, it has felt like Revis Island has been the most terrifying place for NFL receivers to find themselves. Since his breakout years with the Jets, Darrelle Revis has been one of the most consistently brilliant defenders in the league and was absolutely vital in the Patriots' Super Bowl win.

Now a free agent, Revis is the type of player who can instantly shore up a secondary on his own due to his ability to shut down receivers when matched one-on-one with them.

While some expect the Patriots to allow Revis to walk, with his pay increasing significantly from last season, I just don’t see it happening. The Patriots released Vince Wilfork Thursday, as reported by ESPN.com's Mike Reiss, and have a decent amount of cap space on a team that doesn’t seem to have a ton of holes.

It has been stated that Revis prefers to stay in New England, and with the Patriots looking to repeat as champions next season as well, it makes a lot of sense.

Revis was the most important player in a stellar secondary, and with the possible departure of Devin McCourty, per the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe, New England will likely step up and pay its star cornerback.

Prediction: Darrelle Revis re-signs with the New England Patriots
