Lillard Records Most Rebounds by a Guard Since Kidd in 2007

Bleacher Report MilestonesMar 5, 2015

Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard had an odd night in Wednesday's 98-93 overtime win over the Los Angeles Clippers, with his 18 rebounds marking the largest single-game total by a guard since Jason Kidd had 19 on Nov. 16, 2007, per the Blazers' PR twitter account.

Known more for his scoring than anything else, the third-year point guard did not convert a field goal until overtime, as he finished with an unusual stat line of five points, 18 rebounds, four assists and five turnovers in 43 minutes.

Lillard made just one of his 13 field-goal attempts, with none of his seven tries from three-point range going through.

Most of his contribution came on the defensive end, as just one of his 18 boards was of the offensive variety.

It was truly one of the more unusual stat lines of the 2014-15 season, given that Lillard is averaging 21.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.2 assists through 59 games.

While mired in a shooting slump over the last couple of months, he still managed to recently break the NBA record for most three-pointers made through the first three seasons of a career.

Making Wednesday's performance even more unusual, Lillard's previous career-high mark was a mere 10 rebounds, set back in December during a win over the San Antonio Spurs, per basketball-reference.com's play index.

Unsurprisingly, Portland's 24-year-old superstar point guard is still searching for the first triple-double of his career.
