Top Recruits Attending Texas A&M's Friday Night Lights
Old Man Winter had his foot on the necks of the Texas Longhorns last week. Now in-state recruits are wondering if the same will happen with the Texas A&M Aggies on Friday.
Texas A&M is scheduled to host their annual "Friday Night Lights" practice, one of the biggest draws of the spring for the program. It will include a bouncy environment that features a live DJ and enthusiastic players and coaches.
Because the Aggies will not have a spring football game due to ongoing renovations at Kyle Field, Friday Night Lights is one of the—if not, the—biggest recruiting opportunities for the team. The last thing Texas A&M needs is bad weather to make the roads slick and the conditions unfavorable for out-of-towners.
If the weather permits, these eight athletes are expected to be in attendance Friday. They're listed in alphabetical order.
4-Star 2017 LB Baron Browning
1 of 8
Hometown: Kennedale, Texas
Size: 6'3", 220 lbs
247Sports composite rank: No. 18 (No. 1 ILB)
247Sports interest grade: Cool
Injuries slowed down Baron Browning in his sophomore year, but when he's healthy, he's definitely one to watch—on the field and with recruiting. Browning is the nation's top-ranked inside linebacker in the 2017 class but is fast enough and savvy enough to play outside linebacker.
Browning will be expected to have a great season as a junior, as he's looking to impress a ton of schools. He has five offers, but Texas A&M is showing interest. He could be a versatile option for Sumlin's defense.
Other offers to watch: Texas Tech, Baylor, Arkansas, Oklahoma State
4-Star DT Chris Daniels
2 of 8
Hometown: Euless, Texas (Trinity)
Size: 6'4", 290 lbs
247Sports composite rank: No. 108 (No. 12 DT)
247Sports interest grade: n/a
Chris Daniels is nearing 20 offers, but none of those have come from Texas A&M—not yet, at least. Daniels is a talented lineman who already has college-level size up front. This trip could be an opportunity for Daniels and the Aggies to further gain mutual respect for each other.
Daniels has taken in recent junior days at TCU (Feb. 21), Oklahoma (Feb. 15) and Baylor (Jan. 31). The Friday Night Lights atmosphere could help the Aggies become major players in his recruiting process.
Other offers to watch: TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma, Arkansas
4-Star DT Jordan Elliott
3 of 8
Hometown: Houston (Westside)
Size: 6'4", 305 lbs
247Sports composite rank: No. 182 (No. 18 DT)
247Sports interest grade: Committed to Baylor
Jordan Elliott committed to Baylor on Jan. 31, but Texas A&M has to feel good about the position it's in right now. Elliott said Thursday that he's strongly considering making the trip to College Station. The Aggies have yet to offer Elliott, but if he makes the trip, you have to wonder if an offer is in the near future.
Elliott has great size and strength for a defensive tackle, and his reported 4.86 speed in the 40-yard dash makes him an intriguing prospect. Baylor, however, is doing all it can to make sure it keeps its top defensive commitment.
Other offers to watch: Baylor (committed), Texas
4-Star LB Dontavious Jackson
4 of 8
Hometown: Houston (Alief Elsik)
Size: 6'3", 235 lbs
247Sports composite rank: No. 154 (No. 4 ILB)
247Sports interest grade: Warm
An Achilles' heel of Texas A&M's defense has been at inside linebacker, and Dontavious Jackson can become an impact player sooner than later. Jackson has made a couple of unofficial visits to College Station in the past year, so this won't be a new trip for him.
Jackson's 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions currently favor Texas, but Friday can be a great time for the Aggies to make up some ground. You can bet that Jackson is a prime target.
Other offers to watch: Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Alabama
5-Star OT Gregory Little
5 of 8
Hometown: Allen, Texas
Size: 6'5", 282 lbs
247Sports composite rank: No. 1
247Sports interest grade: Committed to Texas A&M
The No. 1 player in the land, Gregory Little committed to Texas A&M in June. He is expected to be in College Station not only to watch the practice but also to serve as a player-recruiter for those who are still uncommitted.
Little is a solid commit to Texas A&M and is expected to be an instant contender for a starting offensive lineman position upon his arrival. He can play either tackle or guard at the next level.
Other offers to watch: Oklahoma, Ohio State, Alabama
5-Star S Eric Monroe
6 of 8
Hometown: Houston (North Shore)
Size: 6'0", 180 lbs
247Sports composite rank: No. 26 (No. 2 S)
247Sports interest grade: Warm
Eric Monroe was at the Texas junior day last week, and now it's Texas A&M's turn to impress the 5-star athlete. Monroe's the type of player who can line up at safety, cornerback, rover or outside linebacker. He could be a major asset on Kevin Sumlin's improving defense.
Monroe isn't a stranger to College Station. He was at Texas A&M for a camp in June and has made unofficial visits there in August and September, per 247Sports.
Other offers to watch: Baylor, Texas, LSU
4-Star RB Trayveon Williams
7 of 8
Hometown: Houston (C.E. King)
Size: 5'9", 179 lbs
247Sports composite rank: No. 324 (No. 6 APB)
247Sports interest grade: Warmer
After a junior day to Texas and an unofficial visit to Houston, Trayveon Williams is ready to take in Friday Night Lights. His versatility can be used—and would be welcomed—in Kevin Sumlin's system. Williams named Texas A&M his early leader last month.
Williams isn't the biggest back, but neither was a former Aggies running back with a similar name. Speedy Trey Williams earned his playing time lining up all over the field and being a reliable special teams returner. Trayveon Williams can be used the same way.
Other offers to watch: Texas, Oklahoma, TCU, Houston
4-Star 2017 DT Marvin Wilson
8 of 8
Hometown: Bellaire, Texas (Episcopal)
Size: 6'4", 300 lbs
247Sports composite rank: No. 13 (No. 1 DT)
247Sports interest grade: Cool
As the nation's top-ranked defensive tackle in the 2017 class, Marvin Wilson is definitely one to watch. Wilson currently holds offers from Texas Tech and Louisville, but there's a good chance that his recruiting process will skyrocket this spring.
Wilson has camped twice at Texas and once at TCU, according to his 247Sports timeline. A memorable Friday Night Lights experience could do wonders for where the Aggies stand with him. The big question: Will Wilson pick up a Texas A&M offer?
Other offers to watch: Texas Tech, Louisville
