Thomas Robinson Claimed by 76ers: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Timothy RappFeb 24, 2015

Thomas Robinson seemed keen to sign with the Brooklyn Nets after he was waived by the Denver Nuggets. Instead, he'll reportedly be joining the Philadelphia 76ers, who claimed him off of waivers before Tuesday's deadline.

The 76ers confirmed the move.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports initially had the report. Wojnarowksi later provided cap details.

Wojnarowski added, "Robinson's $3,678,360 salary pushes the Sixers over the salary floor. Denver is no longer responsible for paying Robinson's salary."

Marc Stein of ESPN also reported the following:

Robinson was the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings but has made little impact, spending time on four teams (he's also been a member of the Houston Rockets, the Portland Trail Blazers and the Denver Nuggets) in his short career.

He was most recently traded to the Nuggets from Portland in the Arron Afflalo trade before being cut by Denver. In 32 games with Portland this season, he averaged 3.6 points and 4.2 rebounds in 12.2 minutes.

On a young, inexperienced Sixers team, he should be able to earn plenty of minutes and perhaps showcase the potential that made him a lottery pick in 2012. After bouncing around the league in his first three seasons, Robinson will have the chance to show he can develop into a solid player.

Brooklyn may have been his preferred destination, but at least Robinson won't have to worry about playing time in Philadelphia.
