Gael Clichy Receives Red Card During Manchester City vs. Barcelona

Manchester City will be without the services of full-back Gael Clichy for the return leg of the Champions League round of 16 clash with Barcelona after the Frenchman received a red card during Tuesday's 2-1 loss at the Etihad Stadium.

The club's official Twitter account announced the news of the booking, which came after a foul on Barcelona full-back Dani Alves:

At the time, Clichy had already been booked for an earlier foul, and that yellow card would have forced him to miss the return match as well.

The dismissal did force his team-mates to play with just 10 men for the final 17 minutes at a time they were trying to complete a comeback, having just pulled a goal back via Sergio Aguero. Sport Illustrated's Grant Wahl couldn't believe the veteran defender would be so reckless:

Clichy's suspension likely means Aleksandar Kolarov will start at full-back for the return leg.
