Robinson Chose Nets After Being Waived

Wojnarowski initially reported Robinson was waived Sunday by the Denver Nuggets alongside forward Victor Claver. The pair was acquired last Thursday as part of a trade that sent Arron Afflalo to Portland in exchange for a future first-round pick.
Robinson, who has a cap hold of $3.68 million for this season, needed to clear waivers before being officially signed by Brooklyn. Robinson said he was "excited" to play for the Nets when contacted by Basketball Insiders' Alex Kennedy, though his future in Brooklyn may not come to fruition if he is claimed by the 76ers:
The former Kansas star, selected No. 5 overall by Sacramento in 2012, will be playing for his fourth NBA team. He's failed to find a home in any of the previous three stops, exuding high energy but very little production. His four career starts in 172 NBA appearances came this season in Portland, where he spent the last year and a half.
Playing in 32 games before the trade, Robinson was averaging a career-low 3.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. For his career, he averages 12.2 points and 11.7 points per 36 minutes but rarely stretches the floor outside of the restricted area and shoots 52.3 percent from the line.
Robinson sought a buyout in Denver with the hopes of finding a situation where he could prove himself in extended minutes. Brooklyn provides an interesting match. The Nets, on paper, have a fine frontcourt. Brook Lopez and Mason Plumlee occupy a majority of the minutes at center, and the recently acquired Thaddeus Young should be able to extend past the 30-minute mark—something the jettisoned Kevin Garnett could no longer do.
Heading into unrestricted free agency, this looks like a curious choice. Robinson will have to hope he knows something that's not immediately apparent on paper.
