European Team of the Week: Messi, Reus and Robben Form a Frontline to Fear

Lionel Messi is WhoScored.com's European player of the week for the second week running; Barcelona's number 10 was in scintillating form as the Blaugrana romped to a 5-0 win over lowly Levante at Camp Nou.

Messi registered the assist for Neymar's opener before netting a hat-trick with goals either side of half-time. Six successful dribbles contributed to his rating of 10 and his sixth consecutive La Liga WhoScored.com man of the match award.

Bas Dost partners Messi in attack this week. The Dutchman has begun 2015 in prolific form and maintained his excellent goalscoring start to the year with four goals in Wolfsburg's pulsating 5-4 win at Bayer Leverkusen.

With all four of his shots hitting the back of the net and five aerial duels won in the victory, Dost churned out a perfect striker's display as Wolfsburg continued their unlikely quest to usurp Bayern Munich at the summit of Germany's top tier.

Arjen Robben features on the right wing this week following a stunning display in the aforementioned Bundesliga champions' 8-0 thumping of Hamburg at the Allianz. The wideman was in unstoppable form in Saturday's victory, bagging a brace. With two key passes and eight successful dribbles to his name, it was no surprise to see Robben duly awarded the man of the match award.

Marco Reus features on the opposite flank as a result of his impressive outing on Friday night. The German put Borussia Dortmund in front just after half-time in the 4-2 win over Mainz 05 before turning provider for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a perfectly executed, outside-of-the-boot assist for the Gabon star. Three key passes and two successful dribbles contributed to an impressive showing from Reus, who celebrated signing a new contract in style.

Fellow Bundesliga star Zlatko Junuzovic comes into the midfield this week having played a starring role in Werder Bremen's 3-2 win over Augsburg. Bremen have now won each of their last five Bundesliga matches to haul themselves away from the relegation zone, with Junuzovic excelling in that run. The Austrian registered two assists from his four key passes and was unlucky not to have gotten on the scoresheet, having struck the woodwork twice at the weekend. Three tackles and five interceptions also exhibited the defensive side of his game in the encounter.

Franco Vazquez partners Junuzovic in the middle of the park. The Palermo ace had a helping hand in each of Palermo's three goals in their 3-1 win over Napoli on Saturday evening. The Argentine netted one goal in the victory while his two assists took his total in Serie A for the season to nine, more than any other player.

Vazquez played three key passes, completed two successful dribbles and won four aerial duels to gain a WhoScored.com rating of 9.38 in the fixture along with the man of the match award.

Jordan Amavi stars at left-back following his man of the match performance in Nice's 0-0 draw at Lille at the weekend. The young full-back excelled against the Lille attack and repelled their efforts to successfully help Nice come away with a positive result and a clean sheet. The majority of Lille's attacks came down their right side (40 percent), but Amavi performed admirably to counter the threat, making eight tackles, six interceptions and eight clearances, not to mention winning seven aerial duels.

The 20-year-old also provided an offensive threat for his side from deep, having completed three successful dribbles in the stalemate at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Vieirinha features on the opposite side of defence. The Portuguese registered two assists in Wolfsburg's victory at Leverkusen, setting up for Dost to net both the opener and the winner at the BayArena. With the majority of Wolfsburg's offensive moves coming down the right side (52 percent), Vieirinha was a constant danger to the Leverkusen back line, playing two key passes and completing six successful dribbles in the enthralling fixture between the two teams.

Alvaro Gonzalez comes in at centre-back this week after a commendable outing for Espanyol at Malaga. The defender netted the opener for his side—his first league goal of the season—to help Espanyol on their way to victory. The Periquitos ended the game with 10 men following Diego Colotto's dismissal as the game reached its conclusion, but Gonzalez remained composed at the back as Espanyol secured all three points and a clean sheet in a 2-0 win at Malaga. Three aerial duels won, one tackle, three interceptions and 16 clearances helped his side to victory at the weekend.

Dario Dainelli completes the defence this week following notable back-to-back outings for lowly Chievo. The Gialloblu secured unlikely wins over Parma and Sampdoria this past week, with the 35-year-old awarded the man of the match award in both victories. A combined total of six tackles, 12 interceptions and nine clearances over the two encounters saw him gain an average rating of 8.42 and a place at centre-back in this European team of the week.

Przemyslaw Tyton rounds off the XI this week as a result of his man of the match performance in Elche's 1-0 win at Eibar on Monday night. The Pole made seven saves over the 90 minutes to deny the hosts in their efforts to find the back of the net, with his performance earning a WhoScored.com rating of 8.56 in his side's victory.
