FIFA World Ranking 2015: Updated Men's Standings Revealed

Nick AkermanFeb 12, 2015

Germany have unsurprisingly retained their No. 1 spot in the FIFA World Ranking, but the Feb. 12 update is grim reading for supporters of the United States national team.

As reported by FIFA.com, Jurgen Klinsmann's squad have dropped out of the top 30 after a friendly loss to Chile and a 2-0 win over lowly Panama.

Here's a look at the current top 10. (You can check the full rankings here.)

As always, a four-year "World Cup cycle" is taken into account. Results from this period add to every nation's tally, but the points for each depreciate in value over time.

This means a recent run of poor results for the United States currently shine with the greatest luster. Indeed, Klinsmann's squad have won just two out of seven matches since being eliminated from the 2014 World Cup by Belgium, per Soccerway.

Draws with Ecuador and Honduras, not to mention the 4-1 walloping at the hands of 67th-ranked Republic of Ireland, have contributed to the side's fall.

Minimal changes have occurred in Europe due to few matches taking place. 2010 World Cup champions Spain are just about clutching onto a spot in the top 10, while England have dropped two spots down to 15th.

Much of the movement comes from Asia and Africa. Asian Cup winners Australia jumped 37 places to 63rd, while Africa Cup of Nations victors Cote d'Ivoire enjoyed an eight-spot rise to 20th. AFCON hosts Equatorial Guinea are the biggest climbers by rank and points, earning an additional 370 points to move 69 spots into 49th.

On the other side of the coin, Libya dropped the most, losing 156 points and plummeting 35 spots to 113th.
