Chris Kaman Injury: Updates on Trail Blazers Center's Ankle and Return
Portland Trail Blazers center Chris Kaman will miss Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Lakers due to a right ankle sprain.
Kaman, 32, played 14 minutes in Portland's 109-98 win over the Rockets Sunday, scoring four points and grabbing three rebounds. It's unclear when he was injured, and the Blazers did not offer insight on the severity of his injury.
Kaman missed a game last week with a back injury but had been in the lineup for the last two. With a week-long All-Star break upcoming, it's possible the Blazers are being conservative to avoid an aggravation. Portland can almost certainly handle the lowly Lakers with or without Kaman, so it'd make sense to play things safe.
The veteran, who has been a nice surprise all season off the bench, is averaging 8.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
Robin Lopez will start his fifth straight game since returning from a hand injury last week. Kaman, who'd moved into the starting lineup with Lopez out, has seen markedly diminished playing time since Lopez's return. Meyers Leonard should see extended playing time with Portland's front line diminished by injuries.
