West Brom vs. Tottenham: Winners and Losers from Premier League Game

Mark JonesJan 31, 2015

Two goals in the opening 15 minutes at The Hawthorns set the scene for a comfortable win for Tottenham Hotspur, who ran out 3-0 victors over West Bromwich Albion.

A Christian Eriksen free-kick and Harry Kane's fine finish established that lead, and although Hugo Lloris was required to make a couple of good saves, Spurs were always in control, with Kane adding a third from the penalty spot.

Here are some winners and losers as Spurs moved up to fifth in the table and West Brom went down to 15th.

Winner: Christian Eriksen

1 of 6

Although showing several flashes of excellence during his Tottenham career, there can be little doubt that Christian Eriksen is in the best form we've seen from him in English football right now.

Following on from his double strike in the Capital One Cup tie at Sheffield United, the Dane settled any nerves with a stunning free-kick after just seven minutes here, ensuring that Tony Pulis and his side saw their plans disappear.

He is arguably the best exponent of the art in the division right now.

Loser: Tony Pulis

2 of 6

Developing a reputation for solidity during his previous jobs, Tony Pulis was riding the crest of a wave as he started in the West Brom job by recording three wins and two draws.

All of that positivity has been blown away now, though, with Spurs ruthlessly exposing the lack of quality the Baggies have and finding it surprisingly easy to score their goals.

That won't have pleased Pulis at all, and any delusions of grandeur will now have disappeared.

Winner: Hugo Lloris

Spurs were largely dominant here, but once again they were indebted to their excellent French goalkeeper for producing some excellent saves to preserve their clean sheet.

The first half stop from Claudio Yacob was probably the pick of the bunch, but Lloris again exuded confidence and was such a different presence between the sticks than Michel Vorm, who struggled at times during his cup outings in the past week.

Loser: Saido Berahino

Lauded by many as the future of English goalscoring earlier in the season, Saido Berahino has had something of a lean period of late.

He was always a willing runner here and was as frustrated by the excellence of Lloris as any one of his team-mates, but his status as the potential golden boy of his national team's strike force is slipping somewhat, largely because of the form of one of his opponents here...

Winner: Harry Kane

5 of 6

Give Harry Kane an inch and he will punish you, and the Spurs forward continues to carve out a reputation as a forward who isn't just in good form, but rather is here to stay.

It is the stature of the young Englishman which is perhaps most impressive, and he stood up to the challenges of Joleon Lescott and others here to deliver a fine centre-forward's performance.

It isn't just that, though. If players are judged on goals alone, then Kane can point to 20 in all competitions this season. He's growing into a force of nature, and one that Spurs can be very proud of.

Loser: Arsenal

6 of 6

Arsenal aren't in action until they play Aston Villa on Sunday, but both this win for Tottenham and victories for Manchester United and Liverpool have heaped pressure onto Arsene Wenger's side, who are now behind Spurs in the table.

That won't worry the Frenchman too much, of course, but as we enter the really important part of the season, we are geared up for a fascinating scrap for the European places.
