Calderon Likely Out for Season
Saturday, April 4
Ian Begley of ESPN New York reported head coach Derek Fisher said he doesn't think Calderon will play again this season.
On March 28, Marc Berman of the New York Post reported that Calderon could be done for the season:
"“We got to be honest with this — it’s not a lot of chances,’’ Calderon said. “After the boot is off, we’ll have to make another decision.’’
Calderon agreed it’s a long shot. The Spanish point guard desperately wanted to make his return to try to end the miserable first season in New York on a positive note. In fact, Calderon was furious at a headline that suggested his season could be over after the Feb. 25 game in Boston.
“To play again, I don’t think it’s a good chance,’’ Calderon said. “It’s a totally different picture now.’’
"
Before missing the team's game against the Pistons on Feb. 27, ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk provided a statement from Calderon stating he was not considering ending his season on Feb. 26:
"No, not really. Why? I want to be with my team. [It’s] why after yesterday when it happened I wanted to keep playing ... I want to be with my team until the end of the season," Calderon said.
Almost nothing has gone right for the Knicks this year. While almost nobody expected them to be title contenders, they had seemingly realistic expectations of being a playoff team in the weak Eastern Conference.
Instead, New York has been awful and stuck with aging players like Calderon, whom the team doesn't intend to include in its long-term plans.
