Underrated 2015 College Football Recruits on the Rise
The clock is winding down on the 2015 recruiting class, but a few prospects have quietly emerged as prospects who are underrated in the eyes of recruiting services.
In the case of some prospects, a big senior year caused their offer lists to swell, while others were simply discovered late in the process.
One running back, a trio of standouts who will line up in the secondary and a defensive tackle highlight this year’s crop of late risers.
Which 2015 recruits have emerged this season as standout prospects?
*Players listed in alphabetical order.
Antonio Callaway
1 of 6After being a limited contributor for Miami powerhouse Booker T. Washington High School, Antonio Callaway entered his senior season with something to prove.
A dominant spring and summer on the camp circuit saw schools such as Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Florida State and Miami tender the 5’11”, 185-pounder.
During the season, powers such as Alabama, Auburn, LSU and USC joined the race for one of the top playmakers in South Florida.
Callaway—who caught 31 passes for 818 yards and seven scores during his senior season—is still undecided and has Florida, Miami and West Virginia among his favorites in the final days before national signing day.
Jeremiah Dinson
2 of 6When it comes to producing top football prospects in droves, the South Florida area is factory that is hard to match—which is why some players sometimes fall through the cracks.
Take the case of 3-star corner Jeremiah Dinson, who committed to Auburn on Monday.
The 6’0”, 180-pounder has picked up offers from South Carolina, Florida, Wisconsin and the Tigers since December.
As noted by Keith Niebuhr of Auburn Undercover, Dinson possesses the type of size and athleticism to be a top-notch cover corner in the SEC.
Fotu Leiato
3 of 6The recruitment of Fotu Leiato essentially began in December with an offer from UCLA.
Eventually, powers such as Michigan State, Oklahoma and Oregon joined a group of 10 other schools who jumped in the mix.
The 6’0”, 200-pound 3-star linebacker recently committed to the Ducks.
William Garrow, Leiato’s head coach at Steilacoom High School in Steilacoom, Washington, told Justin Hopkins of 247Sports what makes him a special prospect.
"He has a motor that never quits,” Garrow told Hopkins. “He’s an extremely physical player, and he’s got great instincts. We’ve never had a player quite like him. He has a knack for being around the football, and he pursues the ball no matter where it is at. He’ll chase guys down from 30 yards away across the field. He just plays extremely hard and with great physicality."
Colin Samuel
4 of 6At 6’2.5”, 186 pounds, 3-star corner Colin Samuel has a frame that would intrigue NFL coaches.
His recruitment exploded in November when he received five offers from Power Five schools in a week’s span.
Included in that offer spree was a tender from UCLA, the school he eventually committed to in December.
As Clint Brewster of Wolverine247 notes, Samuel has an intriguing skill set that projects well to the next level.
Kevin Scott
5 of 6Defensive tackle is one of the deepest positions in the 2015 cycle.
One player who has picked up major interest from colleges in the last few months is 3-star Los Angeles product Kevin Scott.
The 6’5”, 280-pounder picked up his first offer from Ohio back in mid-November, per Ryan Bartow of 247Sports.
His interest soared following the release of his senior film, per JC Shurburtt of 247Sports.
Kansas State, Miami, Ole Miss, Texas and USC are among the powers who have offered Scott—who will make his decision on national signing day.
Chris Williamson
6 of 6No prospect has had a busier January than 3-star Georgia product Chris Williamson.
The 6’1”, 190-pound athlete earned eight offers earlier this month—with schools such as Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech pulling the trigger on offering him.
Williamson has the potential to play receiver, corner or safety at the next level.
Considering the recent wave of interest from several top schools, Williamson’s recruitment represents one of the more interesting storylines to follow heading down the stretch toward signing day.
