Chelsea vs. Bradford City: Date, Time, Team News, FA Cup Preview and Prediction

Rory MarsdenJan 23, 2015

Bradford City head to Stamford Bridge on Saturday hoping to pull off a giant-killing by knocking Chelsea out of the FA Cup in the fourth round.

The Bantams face a mighty task against the Premier League leaders, Jose Mourinho's men having not lost at home all season.

Chelsea's Portuguese manager will likely change things up from the Blues' midweek league cup match against Liverpool, but the hosts are the heavy favourites to advance to the next round.

Bradford City have not gone this far in the FA Cup since 2000, but in all likelihood their adventure will come to an end this weekend. However, the FA Cup has thrown up many upsets over the years and the League One side will no doubt put up quite a fight in west London.

Bradford boss Phil Parkinson has no doubt his team will be at their best at Stamford Bridge, per the club's website, but that may not be enough:

"

The lads have fully earned the right to get this far in the competition and to make the most of a game like this. We will enjoy the preparations and the extra attention that comes with it. We've come through a tough local fixture at Halifax, beaten Dartford and then overcome a side from the league above us [Millwall]. We now have this fantastic tie to savour against a top team and a top manager. We will be giving it everything we have this week to make sure we play to the very best we can come Saturday.

"

The Bantams crushed Milwall 4-0 in their recent third-round replay, but their league form of late has been somewhat suspect with losses to Yeovil and Rochdale.

Striker Billy Clarke should be fit for the encounter having returned to training, per the Yorkshire Post's Leon Wobschall, and Bradford will be looking to Jon Stead and Billy Knott to penetrate Chelsea's defence, the pair having scored three goals apiece so far in the competition:

Chelsea made their way past Watford to get through to the fourth round; Mourinho made eight changes for that clash which ended in a 3-0 win.

A similar overhaul of the first team is likely for Saturday's game with the Blues currently battling things out on four fronts.

The likes of Loic Remy, Didier Drogba and Andre Schurrle all made rare starts for the Watford match and will likely line up again from minute one on Saturday.

That will be of little comfort to Bradford, however, considering the quality of said trio, as well as other potential starters Petr Cech and Kurt Zouma.

Drogba has a particularly fine record in the FA Cup, having scored in four different finals, and he will likely relish the opportunity to play against Bradford.

Chelsea were not at their best against Liverpool midweek, failing to create a great deal of chances, per Sky Sports News HQ, but they claimed an important 1-1 draw and will surely be too good for Bradford.

Though Mourinho will likely field a much-changed side, each player will be eager to prove himself, and if things go awry, the likes of Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Oscar could well be on the bench to resolve the issue.

Score prediction: 3-0
