Rory MarsdenJan 21, 2015

Chelsea's Diego Costa and Liverpool's Jordan Henderson reportedly clashed in the Anfield tunnel after their two sides drew 1-1 in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday evening.

According to Chris Bascombe in The Telegraph, the pair did not come to blows but they exchanged verbal hostilities and "a bit of shoving" following the tense cup encounter.

Andy Hunter in The Guardian adds that the pair had to be separated by a member of Liverpool's back-room staff in the tunnel as they continued hostilities that had begun during an entertaining 90 minutes of play on Merseyside.

Indeed, the pair had clashed during the match with the Reds midfielder accusing the Spain international of diving in the second half, The Independent's Ian Herbert reporting the distinctive edge between the two:

An Eden Hazard penalty was cancelled out by a brilliant Raheem Sterling goal on Tuesday to set up a well-poised second leg at Stamford Bridge next week.

Chelsea and Liverpool have a colourful recent history in cup encounters, the two sides having met on numerous occasions both domestically and in the Champions League with explosive results.

While it must be hoped that Henderson and Costa's feud does not detract from next week's second leg, it most certainly will add extra flavour to a hotly anticipated encounter.
