Eto'o Having Medical, Terms Reported

Saturday, Jan. 24

Sampdoria's official Twitter feed posted a photo of Eto'o in a Sampdoria shirt:

According to James Horncastle of BT Sport, Eto'o has arrived in Rome to undergo his medical:

Football Italia provided a photo of Eto'o arriving in Rome:

Eto'o was completing the final hurdles of his switch to Italy on Friday, per Sky Sports:

"

Sky Italia are reporting he has arrived in Italy to have a medical before completing a move to Genoa.

The 33-year-old is expected to earn £1million per season, on a two-and-a-half year deal, with the potential to become a club director once he has finished playing.

"

Sampdoria sporting director Carlo Osti pre-empted the move to Sky Italia on Wednesday:

"

Our agreement with Eto'o has almost been finalised. He wants to join Sampdoria, those are his intentions. He is currently negotiating with Everton to resolve his contract with them.

Everton are looking for a replacement. It might take a day more than expected, but we are moderately optimistic on Eto'o and hope he can arrive as soon as possible.

I think Eto'o is a player of great character who can only help this group of mature players grow even more.

"

Eto'o Heading for Sampdoria

Sunday, Jan. 18

Samuel Eto'o could be on the move again this January after joining Everton over the summer, as the veteran forward is set to move to Serie A's Sampdoria.

“Eto’o has been a great operation on the transfer market,” Sampdoria's director of sport, Carlo Osti, told Sky Sport Italia, via Football Italia. “We have an agreement with him and now are just waiting for him to free himself from Everton.”

His agent, Claudio Vigorelli, also confirmed the pending move.

"He's chosen Genoa and he's really motivated," he was quoted as saying by David Anderson of the Mirror. "In the last few hours, an offer arrived from Santos, which was greater from a financial viewpoint, but he isn't interested in it. His family lives in Milan and he dreams of playing in such a passionate place like Genoa to finish his career."

Eto'o has made eight starts and appeared in 14 Premier League matches for Everton this season, scoring three goals and adding an assist while earning a mediocre 6.66 average match rating from WhoScored.com. In six other appearances across the League Cup, FA Cup and Europa league, he scored an additional goal and added one more assist.

But with Romelu Lukaku established as the first-team forward, Eto'o was never going to be more than a super sub for the Toffees.

And so Eto'o will return to Italy, where he spent two seasons with Inter. The 33-year-old is no longer the elite talent he once was, but he represents an upgrade for Sampdoria up front and should see far more playing time than he has had at Everton. For both player and club, this move represents a win-win situation.
