Predictions for Top 25 Uncommitted 2015 College Football Recruits
The 2014-15 college football ends Monday night, but it won't take long for recruiting season to hit full gear. With national signing day on Feb. 4, teams must pivot from the season that was and start looking at the seasons ahead.
Part of that includes closing strong in the 2015 cycle, even though most of the top recruits have already made their commitments known. There is still plenty of talent to be had, including the No. 1 overall player in the country, three other members of the national Top Five and 23 players in the national Top 100.
Here's a guess at where the Top 25 uncommitted prospects, per the 247Sports composite rankings, will sign in early February.
Sound off below, and let me know where you disagree.
25. CB Kris Boyd (Gilmer, Texas)
1 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| CB Kris Boyd | 5'11.5", 185 lbs | 104 | 11 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Texas (59%), Texas A&M (24%), Florida State (9%), Baylor (9%)
Prediction
It's an all-out Texas bloodbath to land Boyd. Of the four Crystal Ball predictions since New Year's Eve, two have been for Baylor, one has been for Texas and one has been for Texas A&M. Part of Boyd's recruitment might come down to where other players commit, in which case the Aggies seem like the safest choice; they have the most holes to fill on defense. Boyd will visit College Station Jan. 23 and has no officials planned beyond that.
The Pick: Texas A&M
24. DE Arden Key (Atlanta, Georgia)
2 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| DE Arden Key | 6'5", 230 lbs | 103 | 12* |
247Sports Crystal Ball
South Carolina (39%), Georgia (35%), Auburn (22%), LSU 4%)
Prediction
Key decommitted from South Carolina Jan. 6, and the momentum of his recruitment shifted quickly to Auburn. "He likes Auburn because [Will] Muschamp is coming in, along with the relationships he formed with the young guys down at the Under Armour Game," Key's high school coach, Winston Jordan, told Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He will visit the Plains Jan. 30, four days before national signing day, and appears to be heading there for good.
The Pick: Auburn
*Includes strong-side and weak-side defensive ends.
23. CB Holton Hill (Houston, Texas)
3 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| CB Holton Hill | 6'2", 184 lbs | 100 | 10 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Texas (71%), Baylor (21%), Texas A&M (4%), Florida State (4%)
Prediction
Texas is gaining quick steam with Hill, one of the many defensive backs it has prioritized this offseason. The past five predictions on Hill's Crystal Ball have all been for the Longhorns, including one Monday morning from Mark Moore, the managing editor of Baylor blog Our Daily Bears. The 4-star prospect will visit Texas Jan. 16 and Baylor Jan. 23, but most signs point to him ending up in Austin.
The Pick: Texas
22. CB Mark Fields (Cornelius, North Carolina)
4 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| CB Mark Fields | 5'11", 190 lbs | 98 | 8 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Clemson (80%), South Carolina (15%), LSU (5%)
Prediction
Fields decommitted from South Carolina in December but hasn't ruled out the Gamecocks, whom he'll visit in January. But with additional visits lined up at Clemson, LSU and Texas, it seems unlikely he'll end up where he started. Instead he looks like a strong lean for Clemson, where defensive coordinator Brent Venables just signed a four-year extension. The Tigers are building a nice reputation on defense, and Fields looks ready to hop on board.
The Pick: Clemson
21. OT Isaiah Prince (Greenbelt, Maryland)
5 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| OT Isaiah Prince | 6'6", 272 lbs | 97 | 6 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Maryland (45%), Alabama (38%), Ohio State (10%), Florida (7%)
Prediction
Prince could go in three realistic directions. He has January visits lined up at Ohio State and Alabama but close ties at home-state Maryland, where his brother, Damian, committed as a 5-star recruit last cycle. The chance to play alongside his brother is a useful sales pitch for the Terps, who might otherwise stand no chance against Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. Expect this to come down to the wire.
The Pick: Maryland
20. OLB Jeffery Holland (Jacksonville, Florida)
6 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| OLB Jeffery Holland | 6'2", 230 lbs | 90 | 8 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Auburn (55%), Florida (42%)
Prediction
Like so many Florida targets, Holland must choose between the Gators and Auburn now that Will Muschamp has joined forces with Gus Malzahn. He was a fan of the Randy Shannon hiring at Florida, per Zach Abolverdi of The Gainesville Sun, but there's still a lot of momentum pointing him toward the Plains. Of the 12 predictions on Holland's Crystal Ball since December, 11 have him going to Auburn. The only one that doesn't came from Abolverdi.
The Pick: Auburn
19. ATH Donte Jackson (New Orleans, Louisiana)
7 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| ATH Donte Jackson | 5'11", 164 lbs | 85 | 7 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
LSU (55%), Georgia (40%), Oregon (5%)
Prediction
Jackson grew up a fan of LSU and would fill a need at cornerback for the Tigers. He'll visit Baton Rouge Jan. 23 but not before spending the day at Georgia Jan. 16. Both teams could use him desperately and consider him one of their top remaining prospects; Bleacher Report's Michael Felder called him his "favorite player in the 2015 class." All of this could change depending on how he enjoys Athens, but for the time being, proximity wins.
The Pick: LSU
18. RB Dexter Williams (West Orange, Florida)
8 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| RB Dexter Williams | 6'0", 192 lbs | 83 | 11* |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Florida (58%), Louisville (38%), Miami (4%)
Prediction
Williams decommitted from Miami at the start of January, mere hours after saying he wanted to enroll early. He'll visit Notre Dame and Texas A&M before national signing day, but Florida (another one of his previous commitments) and Louisville are the current teams to watch. With a clearer opening in the Cardinals' backfield, look for him to join up with Bobby Petrino at UL. And look for high school teammate Jalen Julius, a 3-star cornerback, to head there with him.
The Pick: Louisville
*Includes all-purpose backs.
17. TE Chris Clark (Avon, Connecticut)
9 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| TE Chris Clark | 6'6", 247 lbs | 80 | 2 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Michigan (63%), Ohio State (14%), Notre Dame (6%), UCLA (6%), Georgia (4%)
Prediction
Michigan was always one of the favorites to land Clark, but after hiring Jim Harbaugh it's the heavy favorite. Harbaugh pumped multiple tight ends from Stanford to the NFL and helped turn Vernon Davis into a superstar with the San Francisco 49ers. Clark will visit Ann Arbor Jan. 16, and as a Northeast native, he won't be afraid of the cold.
The Pick: Michigan
16. RB Chris Warren (Rockwall, Texas)
10 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| RB Chris Warren | 6'2", 240 lbs | 73 | 8* |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Texas (83%), Baylor (9%), Washington (6%), Texas Tech (3%)
Prediction
Let's call an upset. Warren is a Texas lean but far from a Texas lock, and Washington has made him a bigger priority. Warren's father (also Chris Warren) played running back for the Seattle Seahawks, and his mother hails from Seattle as well. The Huskies will host Warren on Jan. 30, making them his final official visit before national signing day. Chris Petersen closed strong with some surprising commitments last cycle, and it's not crazy to think he can repeat that in 2015.
The Pick: Washington
*Includes all-purpose backs.
15. CB DeChaun Holiday (San Marcos, California)
11 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| CB DeChaun Holiday | 6'3", 195 lbs | 70 | 6 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
UCLA (94%)
Prediction
Holiday is one of many recruits taking a late visit to Arizona State (and who can blame them?), but that doesn't make him a real threat to commit anywhere but UCLA. The Bruins have made him a top priority, hoping that his big, physical coverage style can fix a defense with no shortage of talent but questions regarding toughness.
The Pick: UCLA
14. OG Jalin Barnett (Lawton, Oklahoma)
12 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| OG Jalin Barnett | 6'4", 315 lbs | 61 | 6 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Oklahoma (70%), Nebraska (22%), Oklahoma State (5%), Arkansas (3%)
Prediction
The Crystal Ball lists Oklahoma as the favorite to land Barnett, but that is outdated; the massive offensive guard announced Nebraska and Oklahoma State as his top two. The Huskers have made a late push with their new coaching staff, but Mike Gundy, Bob Connelly and the Cowboys have been putting in work for years.
The Pick: Oklahoma State
13. OLB Porter Gustin (Salem, Utah)
13 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| OLB Porter Gustin | 6'5", 245 lbs | 58 | 6 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
USC (100%)
Prediction
Another West Coast recruit, another strong USC lean. Gustin is set to visit Arizona State Jan. 23, but no matter how much he enjoys Tempe, which he also visited in November, the Trojans will remain strong favorites to land him. And rightfully so.
The Pick: USC
12. OLB Roquan Smith (Montezuma, Georgia)
14 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| OLB Roquan Smith | 6'2", 205 lbs | 49 | 5 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Georgia (88%), Florida (9%), Michigan (3%)
Prediction
Smith visited Georgia in December and has trips to Michigan, Ole Miss and UCLA (in that order) lined up for January. The Wolverines are making a hard push after landing defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin, who previously held the same position at Florida and with whom Smith had a tight relationship. But Ann Arbor in January is a little…er, different than Georgia, Mississippi and Los Angeles in January. Why leave when he can stay home (and warm) and play in Athens?
The Pick: Georgia
11. OLB Osa Masina (Salt Lake City, Utah)
15 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| OLB Osa Masina | 6'3.5", 230 lbs | 40 | 4 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
USC (54%), UCLA (29%), Utah (17%)
Prediction
Masina knocked home-state Utah from the running and announced his final three as USC, UCLA and Arizona State. The Trojans have earned 13 of the past 14 predictions on his Crystal Ball, but the one expert who skewed from consensus was a meaningful one: 247Sports national analyst JC Shurburtt, who picked the Bruins. Shurburtt knows what he's talking about, but it's still hard to pick against USC. The Trojans close too well in January and February.
The Pick: USC
10. WR Damarkus Lodge (Cedar Hill, Texas)
16 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| WR Damarkus Lodge | 6'2.5", 190 lbs | 37 | 7 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Ole Miss (48%), Baylor (25%), Texas A&M (21%), LSU (6%)
Prediction
Lodge will visit Texas A&M, the school to which he was formerly committed, on Jan. 16 and Ole Miss the following weekend. Baylor is still in the mix, but those appear to be his current leaders. The way his college eligibility dovetails with that of Laquon Treadwell—whom Lodge told Amos Morale III of NOLA.com he thinks he can replace—makes Ole Miss a logical destination. But it's close.
The Pick: Ole Miss
9. OLB John Houston (Gardena, California)
17 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| OLB John Houston | 6'3", 211 lbs | 35 | 3 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
USC (96%), Oregon (4%)
Predictions
Houston is another strong USC lean who would shock the world by committing elsewhere. He is Rasheem Green's teammate at Gardena Serra, the same school Adoree' Jackson attended before committing to USC last season. We all saw how Jackson developed in his first year with the Trojans. Don't think that is lost on his former comrades.
The Pick: USC
8. RB Soso Jamabo (Plano, Texas)
18 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| RB Soso Jamabo | 6'2.5", 210 lbs | 27 | 1 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
UCLA (39%), Oklahoma (16%), Texas A&M (14%), Baylor (14%), Notre Dame (12%)
Prediction
UCLA has earned the past 17 predictions on Jamabo's Crystal Ball and 20 of the 21 predictions since October. Notre Dame is the Bruins' most serious challenger and should not be counted out, although it's definitely considered the underdog. Jamabo keeps things close to the vest, so there's a chance he shocks the world when he announces his decision. But for now, it is safe to skew chalk.
The Pick: UCLA
7. DT Daylon Mack (Gladewater, Texas)
19 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| DT Daylon Mack | 6'0", 330 lbs | 17 | 4 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Texas A&M (45%), Texas (24%), LSU (14%), TCU (10%), Auburn (2%)
Prediction
The ficklest 5-star recruitment in the class took another twist Monday, when Mack cancelled a Texas visit and added a trip to Auburn. The former Texas A&M commit has the Aggies back on his radar now that they've hired defensive coordinator John Chavis; he will visit College Station Jan. 16. Even after naming TCU his leader Jan. 4 (not long after the Peach Bowl), Mack has always felt destined to land at A&M. At this point, though, nothing would come as a shock.
The Pick: Texas A&M
6. DT Terry Beckner Jr. (East Saint Louis, Illinois)
20 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| DT Terry Beckner Jr. | 6'4", 293 lbs | 16 | 3 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Missouri (74%), Ohio State (10%), Florida State (8%), USC (5%), LSU (3%)
Prediction
Florida State is charging hard at Beckner: The three most recent predictions on his Crystal Ball have him going to Tallahassee. But late-in-the-game trips to Ohio State and longtime favorite Missouri should be enough to keep Beckner in the Midwest. And based on how the Tigers have developed defensive linemen the past few seasons, it's probably enough to get him to Columbia.
The Pick: Missouri
5. DT Rasheem Green (Gardena, California)
21 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| DT Rasheem Green | 6'5", 275 lbs | 15 | 3 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
USC (97%), Miami (3%)
Prediction
For most of his recruitment, Green has been considered a near-lock to play at USC. A mid-November visit to Miami complicated matters, but not so much that the Trojans need to worry. They still get to host Green Jan. 16, and head coach Steve Sarkisian has been flawless closing on 5-star recruits the past two cycles.
The Pick: USC
4. DE CeCe Jefferson (Glen Saint Mary, Florida)
22 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| DE CeCe Jefferson | 6'2", 275 lbs | 5 | 2 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Florida (82%), Ole Miss (12%), Florida State (2%), Alabama (2%)
Prediction
Jefferson threw a wrinkle into his recruitment by naming Ole Miss—not supposed longtime favorite Florida—his leader in late December, per Barton Simmons of 247Sports. In that same interview, though, he said: "My whole thing has always been commit to the school not the coach." Ole Miss is the lead, but Florida, even without an official visit, has time to coax Jefferson back onto its side.
The Pick: Florida
3. CB Iman Marshall (Long Beach, California)
23 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| CB Iman Marshall | 6'1", 190 lbs | 4 | 1 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
USC (98%), Florida State (2%)
Prediction
Marshall is doing his diligence: He has visits set for Florida State, Michigan, LSU and Oregon before national signing day. That is four chances for a school besides USC to sweep him off his feet. At this point, though, predicting anyone other than the Trojans would be cavalier. He has been too strong of a lean this entire process.
The Pick: USC
2. DE Byron Cowart (Seffner, Florida)
24 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| DE Byron Cowart | 6'4", 250 lbs | 3 | 1 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Florida (79%), Florida State (15%), Maryland (2%), Alabama (2%)
Prediction
Florida State has made a move in the final few months of Cowart's recruitment. He has an official visit to Tallahassee set for Jan. 30, four days before national signing day. He also added Auburn to his top three after Will Muschamp left Gainesville for the Plains, which indicates the former Gators coach played a big role in his recruitment. That might be enough to push him over to the 'Noles.
The Pick: Florida State
1. OT Martez Ivey (Apopka, Florida)
25 of 25
| Player | Size | Class Rank | Pos. Rank |
| OT Martez Ivey | 6'5.5", 275 lbs | 1 | 1 |
247Sports Crystal Ball
Florida (80%), Auburn (20%)
Prediction
A longtime Florida lean, Ivey's choice became complicated when the Gators fired Will Muschamp and Muschamp became the defensive coordinator at Auburn. Still, the Apopka native has always seemed interested in playing near home; his strong ties within Florida recruiting circles are an important factor. New UF coach Jim McElwain also has a strong track record grooming offensive tackles.
The Pick: Florida
