Stan's 5-Point Stance: Man Utd Should Sell De Gea, Moyes the Man for Newcastle

Stan CollymoreJan 9, 2015

In this week's five-point stance, Stan Collymore addresses topics related to Manchester United, City, Arsenal and Newcastle United.

1. Man Utd would be smart to sell David de Gea

Manchester United have signed Victor Valdes, who's just 32 and could serve them well for the next five years as first-choice goalkeeper. Could that mean a £30-40 million bid from one of Spain's big clubs in the summer for David de Gea? I think it will, and I think they should take it.

It will be a shame for United, but it's ultimately sensible business because it allows Louis van Gaal to buy a world-class defender or a midfielder in the summer.

There's also talk that Van Gaal might move for Tim Krul, per the Mirror, who he knows well from international duty. Krul would be a good back-up for Valdes and United would be well covered in goal.

2. Stevan Jovetic has been a City flop

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - AUGUST 30: Stevan Jovetic of Manchester City is tackled by Phillip Bardsley of Stoke City during the Barclays Premier League match between Manchester City and Stoke City at Etihad Stadium on August 30, 2014 in Manchester, England. (

I hate to say I told you so, but I always said Stevan Jovetic was not the man to advance Manchester City's European push and take them to the next level.

He's been really disappointing so far and only shown flashes of the player who came from Italy. A lot was expected, but if Wilfried Bony comes in, then I'd expect City to cut their losses and be done with Jovetic.

With so much at stake this season, City just can't afford to have passengers.

3. Lukas Podolski is a winner and still has the drive

Lukas Podolski still has the fire in his belly. He could have stayed at Arsenal and collected his money on the bench, but he's decided to follow his ambition and go for something special at Inter.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he goes on to win things in Italy under Roberto Mancini, because he has the kind of drive that takes you there.

Podolski leaving also shows that Arsene Wenger is just not a good motivational manager, and not somebody that Podolski truly believes in.

4. Breaking down Arsenal's lack of leadership

5. David Moyes should be the next Newcastle manager

David Moyes' stock is high right now, after beating Barcelona with Real Sociedad, and I think he's the right man to take over at Newcastle United.

He could walk into St. James' Park and have respect there. He would be a cracking manager if they went for him.

If not Moyes, I also like Slaven Bilic at Besiktas. He's had chances before to manage in the Premier League but hasn't taken them. He's a great manager with a big personality.

Former Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Liverpool striker Stan Collymore is in his second season as a Bleacher Report video analyst and columnist.
