EPL Table: Updated Premier League Standings, Fixtures, Title Odds After Week 20

Tim KeeneyJan 1, 2015

A new year, and a new team atop the Premier League table.

Well, kind of.

Manchester City's 3-2 win over Sunderland, combined with Chelsea's 5-3 defeat at White Hart Lane against Tottenham Hotspur, brought the Citizens into an even tie with the Blues at the summit of the league. Literally tied. Both clubs have 14 wins, four draws and two losses. Both clubs have scored exactly 44 goals and allowed 19.

Just over a month ago, Chelsea had a six-point cushion on Manchester City. Suddenly, though, that lead has been wiped completely clean.

Man City may just want to send Harry Kane a late Christmas present. The burgeoning 21-year-old striker scored a brace and drew a penalty to pace Tottenham's unbelievable five-goal onslaught.

As Kane said after the match, via the Premier League's Twitter feed, it was a deafening statement from Mauricio Pochettino's bunch:

With Arsenal falling 2-0 to Southampton on Thursday, Spurs are suddenly just two points out from a coveted top-four spot. The Gunners next take on middle-of-the-pack Stoke City, while Tottenham should have little trouble getting three points against Crystal Palace.

The teams meet in a crucial fixture on Feb. 7 at White Hart Lane.

As for Chelsea, the road woes continue. In their last five EPL fixtures away from Stamford Bridge, the Blues are now 1-2-2, including a draw against Sunderland and defeat against Newcastle United.

If they are going to prevent City from a third title in four years, they'll have to improve their form on the road.

Naturally, on the day when City would draw even with Chelsea in the standings, it would be Frank Lampard serving as the hero for the Citizens. The long-time Chelsea star, just three minutes after subbing in, scored the match-winner in 72nd minute after Manuel Pellegrini's men had let a 2-0 lead slip away.

Men in Blazers, with help from ESPN's Paul Carr, put a look on the veteran's unbelievable impact during his loan with City:

Lamps will visit Stamford Bridge and see his old team on Jan. 31 in what one would assume to be the biggest match of the EPL season.

As we've seen over the past month, though, the unpredictability of this season means that plenty can change between now and that point.
