NFL Quarterback Power Rankings, Post-Regular Season
The 2014 NFL regular season has come to a close, leaving in its wake a long list of winners and losers. In the final QB power ranking of the season, Bleacher Report is revealing the final ranking of every single quarterback who started a game this season—a list of 54 individuals trying to excel at the most challenging position in sports. In the end, only one among them will be ranked as the best QB of the year.
2014 showed us that athletes at the quarterback position begin to ripen around the age of 30. Before that, they can display dominance and show high levels of talent, but most QBs don’t reach their peak until they’re in their early-to-mid 30s.
Another valuable yet underrated component to the position is durability. To reach the pinnacle at this position, a QB must be able to sustain himself throughout the course of a 16-game season. Oddly enough, it appears that younger signal-callers are more likely to put themselves in a position that causes an injury.
This year, 11 QBs surpassed the 4,000-yard mark in passing while 22 reached 3,000 yards. Nine QBs had at least 30 TD passes and 16 had at least 20.
Five QBs on this list finished with a passer rating above 100 and three had a Total QBR above 80.
Methodology
1 of 55
These rankings factor in several major attributes for the quarterback position.
Personal observation and opinion play a key role. A general section for film-review grades forms a foundation, but these quarterbacks' most recent performances are what really sends them flying up and down the rankings each week.
Wins also give signal-callers a slight boost in addition to their individual performances. The statistics used to help determine the ranking system are pulled from ESPN.com, NFL.com and Pro Football Focus (subscription required), unless stated otherwise.
Stats that are factored in include passer rating, completion percentage, yards per pass, rushing yards per game, touchdown-to-interception ratio, fumbles lost and wins.
As the season moves on, the weighted influence from last year's output is reduced by 25 percent each week.
When more than one quarterback plays for a team in one game, the QB with the most passing attempts was featured.
For the final rankings of the year, every QB who started a game in 2014 is listed.
Note: Total QBR is a scoring system that assesses everything a quarterback does on the field. It is explained further on ESPN.com.
Also, Pro Football Focus grades every single play of the season to generate a cumulative point total, which weighs into the metric used to create these rankings.
54. Christian Ponder, Minnesota Vikings
2 of 55
Season Review
The Vikings' former first-round draft pick is the lowest-ranked QB in the NFL this year. He started only one game, which was in Week 5, but that was clearly enough to cement his place in QB infamy.
He finished the year with the lowest QBR of any QB who started a game this year after throwing two picks and no TD passes.
It’ll be interesting to see if Ponder ever starts another game in the NFL. If it does happen, he'll likely replace an injured starter.

53. Johnny Manziel, Cleveland Browns
3 of 55
Season Review
Manziel ends his tumultuous rookie campaign completing 18 of 35 passes for 175 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions.
This is the type of debut season that has all the Manziel doubters playing the “I told you so” card. One thing we have to remember here is that the kid has attempted only 35 NFL passes.
His calf injury to end his season could be an ominous foreshadowing to a career of nagging injuries unless he puts in the work to strengthen his body.

52. Connor Shaw, Cleveland Browns
4 of 55
This Week
With Manziel ruled out due to an injured hamstring and Brian Hoyer "very sore," rookie Connor Shaw was named the starter vs. the Ravens.
When Baltimore and Cleveland met back in September, the Ravens won 23-21. With the Ravens looking to make the playoffs with a victory, this was obviously a tough game for the Browns to win on the road considering their QB troubles and nothing significant to play for.
Connor Shaw got beaten up out there against the Ravens, yet played all right with his limited offense.

Season Average
Shaw, an undrafted rookie QB, actually looked better than Johnny Manziel in a comparison of their first NFL starts.
Keep in mind, better is a relative term in this case. Shaw finished the game (and season) with a QBR of 14.8 as the Browns managed just 10 points. But that was 10 more than what Manziel generated in his first start.

51. Ryan Lindley, Arizona Cardinals
5 of 55
This Week
Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton was not ready to start in Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers as he continued to recover from a knee injury. Instead, Logan Thomas was named the starter, only to lose that job midway through the week.
Lindley threw two perfectly placed touchdown passes to Michael Floyd in the first half.
He finished the game with 316 passing yards, although he added three INTs and managed to generate only 17 points.

Next Week's Outlook
Arizona needs a viable QB to have any chance once the playoffs begin. Right now, it doesn’t look like the team has one who is healthy.
The Carolina Panthers, who have won four in a row, host the Cardinals on Saturday.
50. Mike Vick, New York Jets
6 of 55
Season Review
In the five games that Vick saw significant playing time, he failed to generate at least 200 yards passing through the air in any of them.
Vick finished the season with one of the worst passer ratings in the NFL (68.3) and a Total QBR of 22.2. He attempted only 121 passes but still managed to lose two fumbles.
No QB with at least 100 pass attempts had a lower yards-per-pass average than Vick’s 4.99 this season.

Bortles won three games this year. He also had just three appearances without an interception, and two of those contests ended in victories.
Bortles started to understand the importance of taking care of the football, and it translated into success.
In his first eight games he threw 14 INTs, but in his final six games he threw just three. That at least shows the kid can make progress.
He finished off the season as the most-sacked QB (55) in the NFL.

When Chad Henne was replaced by rookie Blake Bortles in Week 3, he never returned to action. He finished the season with a 16.1 Total QBR and a 6.31 yards-per-pass-attempt average.
To put that into perspective, only seven QBs this season attempted at least 50 passes while averaging fewer yards per pass.

It’s perplexing to think head coach Lovie Smith continued to start the veteran Josh McCown when Mike Glennon is the guy who needed to be evaluated for the future. Glennon also was one of the more successful rookie QBs from 2013.
McCown still started the final game of the season and generated the same losing results, even though the New Orleans Saints defense has been one of the worst in the league and the Bucs got to finish the season at home.

Season Review
Clausen showed enough in his one start to earn another look, but he suffered a concussion against the Lions and missed the final game of the season.
Of all the QBs to start a game in 2014, Clausen has the dubious honor of the lowest yards-per-attempt average (4.65).
Clausen didn’t have much of a sample size to gauge here, but the Bears receivers did him no favors in Week 16.
Clausen finished the year completing 54.2 percent of his passes with a QBR of 40.6.

45. Matt Cassel, Minnesota Vikings
11 of 55
Season Review
Matt Cassel started off the season as the Vikings’ starting quarterback after beating out Ponder and Teddy Bridgewater in the preseason.
In the two complete games he played, Cassel generated mixed reviews but at best achieved the ranks of a below-average starter. At his worst, he looked like a guy in over his head and destined to be benched had he stayed healthy.
He eventually was placed on IR after fracturing several bones in his foot against the Saints in Week 3.

44. Ryan Mallett, Houston Texans
12 of 55
Season Review
After nearly four years of anticipation, Ryan Mallet finally got his opportunity to start in a regular-season game. He started two contests this season before suffering a pectoral injury that ended his season.
Mallet was traded from the Patriots to the Texans for a sixth-round pick.
The QB completed 54.7 percent of his passes while averaging just 5.33 yards per pass. He also had a passer rating of just 67.6.

43. Brandon Weeden
13 of 55
Season Review
Though Weeden saw action in multiple games, he started only one, which turned out to be a loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
During that game, Weeden completed less than 55 percent of his passes and threw two INTs compared to just one TD pass. He also attempted 33 passes against the Cardinals, yet managed only 183 yards through the air.
His long TD pass against the Colts helped to bolster his yards-per-pass average to a decent range.

42. Geno Smith, New York Jets
14 of 55
This Week
Smith needed to focus to move the ball through the air against the Miami Dolphins' eighth-ranked defense. And focus is exactly what he did.
Smith put on a show against a secondary that had given countless QBs problems.
This was by far the most impressive game of his career.
The Jets put enough fight into the game to send off head coach Rex Ryan on a positive note.

Considering the limited talent on offense surrounding Smith in New York, we need to give the youngster credit for making some nice strides from his rookie year to now. With that said, he finished ranked pretty much in the same place this year (42) as he did last year (43).

41. Jake Locker, Tennessee Titans
15 of 55
Season Review
Despite just 146 pass attempts on the year, Jake Locker was responsible for eight turnovers.
Locker has always struggled with accuracy in the deep-to-intermediate range. Of all the QBs who attempted at least 100 passes, only nine had a lower completion percentage than Locker.
Even though his season ended with a shoulder injury, there is virtually no chance Locker returns as the starting QB for the Titans as long as Ken Whisenhunt remains the head coach.

16 of 55
Season Review
The Titans quarterback finished his rookie campaign with a passer rating of 83.4 and a QBR of 30.1. He did manage to throw one more TD (eight) than INTs (seven) while completing 59.8 percent of his passes and losing two fumbles.
One thing Mettenberger failed to do is lead his team to victory.
He did show some promising skills as a pocket passer before sitting out the last three weeks of the season with a shoulder injury.

39. Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders
17 of 55
This Week
Carr and the Raiders were blown out of their own house 41-17 in November by the Denver Broncos. They seemed to find their mojo after that loss, winning their first three games of the season between Nov. 20 and Dec. 21.
Just when you thought Oakland was ready to compete against Denver, the Broncos basically repeated the same results generated the last time they played.
Denver was ranked third in total defense, so the rookie needed to play one of his best games just to keep the ball moving.
He clearly struggled all day and failed to throw for 200 passing yards.

Carr and the Raiders went 3-3 in their last six games after starting 0-10. He showed a lot of promise throughout his rookie season, with only three interceptions in his last seven games.
Carr played pretty solid football for a rookie and showed that he could avoid INTs. With his arm talent, he has a bright future.
His 5.46 yards-per-pass-attempt average ranked the lowest among all QBs with at least 150 pass attempts. His decision-making coupled with an impressive offensive line helped him to finish fifth in QB sack percentage (3.85), according to Pro-Football-Reference.
He was also the only rookie to start all 16 games this season.

We got only one game of any significance out of Chase Daniel this year, but it turned out to be a winning performance.
Daniel had a Total QBR of 46.4 for the season and a quarterback rating of 73.1. In just two career starts, he has proved that he does indeed belong in the NFL in some capacity.

36. EJ Manuel, Buffalo Bills
20 of 55
Season Review
Against the Texans in Week 4, EJ Manuel had possibly his worst day as a pro, completing just 47.7 percent of his passes on 44 attempts. This was the performance that finally did him in as the Bills’ starting QB in 2014.
Manuel was supposed to be the franchise quarterback for the Bills. He struggled this season, but most young quarterbacks are given more time to work through these issues.
In 15 career games he has completed 59 percent of his passes with a 3.7 percent TD ratio compared to a 2.7 percent INT ratio. That might not be amazing, but for a guy so young it seemed a bit hasty to yank him. Something more dire must have been going on behind the scenes.
His 19.8 Total QBR ranked among the league’s worst this season.

Season Review
Hoyer started Cleveland's first 13 games before he was benched in favor of Manziel prior to the Week 15 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Brian Hoyer finished with a QBR of 43.1 and a passer rating of 76.5. He averaged an impressive 7.59 yards per pass attempt but completed only 55.3 percent of his passes on the season.
By Week 10, the Browns were 6-3 and Hoyer had peaked with the 16th overall ranking. Not long after that he would drop to 29th overall before being benched for Manziel.

Griffin finished the year as the starter after getting benched and relegated to second string for Weeks 13-15. In Week 16, he won his first game since Week 9 of the 2013 season. In the season finale he looked like the guy who got benched at times, throwing two red-zone interceptions.
Griffin attempted 214 passes this year but managed to throw only four TD passes.

33. Drew Stanton, Arizona Cardinals
23 of 55
Season Review
Drew Stanton took over for Carson Palmer a few times this season and played admirable in his absence. The Cardinals went 5-3 in games in which he saw significant playing time. His greatest ability was allowing the defense to help win games without creating any costly turnovers. In his nine games, the Cardinals scored 25 points or more on only one occasion.
On the more negative side, only Mike Vick had a lower completion percentage than Stanton among QBs with at least 100 pass attempts.

32. Austin Davis, St. Louis Rams
24 of 55
Season Review
Before the season began very few people had heard of Austin Davis. Now, with 10 NFL regular-season games under Davis' belt, the football world is a lot more familiar with the undrafted kid who started out as St. Louis' third-string QB.
Though Davis was far from perfect, he proved that he can play quarterback in this league. He had three games where he completed more than 70 percent of his passes and two games with 300 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Davis also conducted one of the most surprising upsets of the season when he helped St. Louis beat the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7. During that contest, Davis completed 85.7 percent of his passes against one of the best defenses in the NFL.

31. Kirk Cousins, Washington Redskins
25 of 55
Season Review
The Washington Redskins had three quarterbacks share significant playing time this year. Of the three, Kirk Cousins ranks second on the team.
The low point of the season for Cousins was his prime-time game against the Giants in Week 4. He tossed four picks in that game and Washington lost 45-14. This came right after his best game of the season, in which he piled up 427 passing yards and three passing TDs against the Eagles. What a difference a week can make.
In all, Cousins was disappointing this season. He finished with a 46.8 Total QBR. His most impressive statistic was his 8.38 yards-per-pass-attempt average, which was good enough for third in the league behind Tony Romo and Aaron Rodgers.

29. Shaun Hill, St. Louis Rams

This Week
Hill had the odds stacked against him last Sunday, as the St. Louis Rams finished an up-and-down season against the Seahawks in Seattle.
St. Louis faced an inspired performance from its divisional foes, as expected, considering they were still hoping for a first-round bye and to exact revenge for the upset the Rams pulled off back in October.
Shaun Hill threw two INTs on the day as the Rams generated only six points.

28. Mike Glennon, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
28 of 55
Season Review
The second-year QB was not given much of a chance to show new head coach Lovie Smith what he can do. This, even though he was one of the more productive rookie quarterbacks last year, when he finished ranked 27th overall.
This year he failed to average more than 7.0 yards per pass. He finished the season with a 55.9 Total QBR and led the Bucs to a 1-5 record.

27. Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles
29 of 55
Season Review
Foles set a high standard for himself last season that gave many of us a false sense of his actual talent. Was his regression due to a banged-up offensive line? We can assume the injuries played some role.
Regardless, the Eagles found a way to make it work. Foles went 6-1 in games where he contributed despite completing a subpar 59.8 percent of his passes.
He ended up eighth in the league in passing yards per game (270.4) for quarterbacks who threw for at least 2,000 yards.

26. Kyle Orton, Buffalo Bills
30 of 55
This Week
With the Bills eliminated from the playoffs, head coach Doug Marrone still declined to play second-year QB EJ Manuel. This would have been a smart move if the Bills had any interest in figuring out what the young QB can do moving forward.
The Bills traveled to Foxborough last Sunday to face the Patriots' 13th-ranked defense and Orton played just well enough to seal the victory.

Season Review
Orton helped guide Buffalo to a 9-7 record, which is the organization’s first winning season in 10 years.
For the season he completed 64.2 percent of his passes and averaged just 6.75 yards per pass attempt.
He was hardly everything you want in a quarterback, but he stabilized the position when Manuel seemed unable to do it. Orton won’t be around to help in 2015, though. Orton announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday morning.

25. Mark Sanchez, Philadelphia Eagles
31 of 55
This Week
Despite the team's game against the 6-9 Giants having no playoff implications, head coach Chip Kelly elected to start Sanchez. This move was perhaps to get a better understanding of whether Sanchez is worth bringing back next season.
Sanchez played well in the victory and threw multiple TD passes for the sixth time this season. As well as throwing the two TD passes, he ran seven times for 22 yards and led the Eagles to points on six of their 14 drives.

As a replacement to the injured Nick Foles, he went 5-4, including a 33-10 road win over the Cowboys.
There was an issue with Sanchez’s turnover problem. He committed 14 in his nine appearances, which was the most of any player in the NFL since Week 9.
On the positive side, Sanchez finished sixth in the league in yards per pass attempt (7.8).

Colt McCoy had his share of struggles just like every Washington signal-caller, but he did manage to lead the NFL in completion percentage (71.1) while finishing fourth among QBs with an average of 8.26 yards per pass (minimum of 100 pass attempts).
Relative to the other two QBs in Washington, McCoy was the most productive this season.

Season Review
Derek Anderson was one of the most successful backups to start a game this year. He seems to have matured and settled down in his older age and lost his damaging recklessness with the ball.
Off all the quarterbacks to throw at least 50 passes this season, only Tony Romo and Aaron Rodgers had a better passer rating than Anderson’s 105.2 mark. And he led the NFL with a Total QBR of 82.8.
Of course, it should be noted that Anderson’s only two starts came against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that finished 28th in passing yards allowed and 27th in opponent passer rating (97.2).

Of all the QBs to start the season as a backup, none finished ranked as high as the rookie Bridgewater.
Bridgewater is also the highest-ranked rookie QB on the power rankings and somehow managed to be one of only three QBs this season to start at least 10 games and not lose a fumble to the opponent.
His sound decision-making and incredible mid-level accuracy led the Vikings to a 5-4 record down the stretch. His 64.4 percent completion rate was the 11th best among qualified QBs.

20. Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers
36 of 55
This Week
The 49ers’ passing game has been stagnant virtually all season with Kaepernick at the helm. But when the Arizona Cardinals came to town on Sunday, San Francisco fully embraced the role of spoiler.
Entering the game, the Cardinals were still vying for the NFC West title but failed to pull off the victory with third-string QB Ryan Lindley.
Kaepernick threw two TDs and avoided any INTs on the day.

Season Review
To say Colin Kaepernick’s season has been disappointing would be an understatement. His 52 sacks on the year were partially because of his own poor decision-making. Only rookie Blake Bortles was sacked more times (55).
Despite the criticism and the losses, Kap’s completions percentage was up from 58.4 percent in 2013 to 60.5 percent this year. He also improved his passing yards total from 3,197 to 3,369. He even rushed for more yards (639) than he did in 2013 (524).
He had 10 games this season where he didn’t throw a single INT.
Kap still struggles to read defenses, and he needs to improve his pocket awareness moving forward.

Next Week's Outlook
Cincinnati has been on the losing side of the Wild Card Round three straight years now. This Sunday it travels to Indianapolis looking to break that streak.
The Bengals have rushed for 100-plus yards in six of their last seven games; however, they can't solely rely on their running backs to ease the quarterback's load. This means Dalton will have to make some critical plays while avoiding the costly mistakes that have plagued him.
18. Carson Palmer, Arizona Cardinals
38 of 55
Season Review
One of Palmer's biggest improvements this season was his ability to avoid turnovers.
His career interception rate is 3.2 percent, but he finished the year with a rate of just 1.3 percent, good enough for second best behind only Aaron Rodgers.
Palmer started the year ranked 20th but was eventually worked his way up the 12th in the rankings by just his fifth game, which came in Week 9.

Stafford and the Lions headed to the Frozen Tundra last Sunday in one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the week.

Stafford ended up as one of the 11 QBs to throw for at least 4,000 yards this season. Of that group, he finished with the lowest completion rate (60.3) and the fewest TD passes.
The Lions QB was inconsistent for most of the year. In fact, he had more subpar and average games than he did impressive ones in 2014. But he was often at his best with the game on the line. Stafford led the NFL in game-winning drives (five) and comebacks (five), according to Pro-Football-Reference.

In Week 17 the Panthers traveled to Atlanta with the season on the line. Newton tried to be the first NFC South QB to beat the Falcons in 2014, and he succeeded while throwing 16 passes for 114 yards.

Season Review
Newton's play has not been the same since his Week 9 debacle against the Saints—in a good way. He helped turn Carolina's season around, and now it is headed to the playoffs despite losing six games in a row earlier this campaign.
It’s been a crazy up-and-down year for Newton. I expected the QB to have a statistical letdown this year considering the mass exodus that happened at the receiver position.
Newton had a QBR of 56.9 but failed to average 7.0 yards per pass attempt. In addition to his 18 TD passes, he also rushed for five TDs.

15. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Houston Texans

Season Review
Even though Ryan Fitzpatrick failed to inspire confidence in his head coach for much of the season, he would eventually return to his starting role after being benched for two games. His return was born out of necessity rather than choice when his replacement, Ryan Mallet, went down for the season with an injury.
Fitzpatrick finished the season with a better passer rating (95.3) than Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan and Philip Rivers. Not bad for a guy who got benched.
He also was fourth in the NFL in yards-per-pass-attempt average (8.0).

12. Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins
44 of 55
This Week
The Dolphins needed a win in Week 17 against the Jets to secure a winning season. The Jets had the sixth-ranked defense going in and held the Dolphins to just 16 points the last time they played earlier this month.
This time around the Jets finally played some offense.
Tannehill completed less than 60 percent of his passes for the first time since Week 8 in the 37-24 loss.

Season Review
Tannehill finished the season as the only QB to throw for more than 4,000 yards while averaging less than seven yards per pass attempt. He also failed to complete a pass that gained more than 50 yards during the regular season.
This was a positive season for the third-year QB. He proved he has what it takes to be one of the better QBs in the NFL. He may never become elite, but he will certainly remain an asset for years to come.
Currently, his biggest weakness is deep-ball accuracy.

45 of 55
This Week
The Ravens needed to win in Week 17 against Cleveland and still had to rely on the Chargers to lose to squeeze into the postseason. Luckily for the Ravens, everything fell into place, and they are moving on to the playoffs.
Flacco threw for over 300 yards for just the fifth time this season. He also avoided turnovers and added two pass TDs.

Season Review
After ending Week 1 ranked 27th overall in the power rankings, Flacco has steadily ascended upward—peaking at ninth place in Week 15—while enjoying perhaps the best regular season of his career.
He has a better Total QBR (67.3) than Ryan Tannehill, Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck and Philip Rivers and has yet to give up a fumble to the opponent. Flacco and Russell Wilson are the only two QBs to start every game this season and not commit a turnover by fumbling.

According to Pro-Football-Reference, Flacco is averaging 221 yards passing with 1.2 TDs and 0.4 INTs in his 14 games against the Steelers.
10. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons
46 of 55
This Week
The Falcons faced the Panthers in a matchup to determine the champion of the NFC South.
The Panthers are ranked 10th in defense and have won their last three games. Ryan has also played like one of the best QBs in the NFL.
Ryan and Co. were sent home early in this game, as the Falcons could muster only three points on the day while Ryan added two more INTs to his season total.
He picked a bad day to play poorly.

Season Review
Perhaps it’s no coincidence that the two highest-ranked QBs with losing records this season (Drew Brees, Matt Ryan) are also the two leaders in passing attempts. This stat reflects the need to play come-from-behind football, but it also demonstrates how a lack of offensive balance can cost a team victories.
The Falcons QB stayed within the top 10 on the rankings for most of the season. His 67.0 QBR was better than Philip Rivers, Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck's.

Rivers and the Chargers needed a win over the Chiefs in Week 17 to make the playoffs. Rivers needed to play well and be mobile enough to evade a ruthless Chiefs pass rush.
He completed less than 60 percent of his passes and had double-digit INTs for just the fifth time all year in the loss.

This Week
It’s a good thing Wilson has been one of the best scrambling QBs all year, because the Rams brought a dangerous pass rush with them in last week’s season finale.
Last time these teams met, the Rams pulled off an incredible upset. This time, the Seahawks had a divisional title on the line and made sure they came away with a win.
Though he didn’t throw a TD pass, Wilson added his seventh INT of the season.

Season Review
Wilson is a Super Bowl-winning QB and one of the better starters in the NFL. But he is not good at completing passes in tight windows. His best two games have come in prime time this season against Washington and Arizona.
Wilson finished this season with 849 rushing yards, the fifth-best total for a QB in NFL history.
His legs were his defining quality this season, as he often came up short with his arm. He finished 12 games with fewer than 250 yards passing and never had three passing TDs.

It’s becoming an annual event for Drew Brees to be among the leaders in passing yards. He has finished in the top three in that category for the last five seasons. This year he tied with Ben Roethlisberger for the most after racking up 4,952 yards through the air.
Brees also finished second behind Romo in completion percentage (69.2).
The most troubling aspect of this future Hall of Famer’s season was New Orleans' 7-9 record.

This year, Luck supplanted Peyton Manning for the most passing yards in a single season in Colts history. His 86 TD passes in the first three seasons is second-most all time behind Dan Marino, who had 98 in his first three years.
The Colts QB is athletic and intelligent and will soon become the best QB in the NFL. He used both of those tools to finish eighth in sack percentage despite having a below-average offensive line.
He finished third in passing yards and first in passing TDs (40). His 96.5 passer rating was seventh and he threw the sixth-most INTs (16) in 2014.

Next Week's Outlook
On Sunday, Indianapolis will host the Bengals in an exciting Wild Card Round matchup. Luck and the Colts are averaging 28.6 points per game, while the Bengals defense is allowing 21.5 points.
Expect Luck to pull off the victory at home.
5. Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos
51 of 55
This Week
Manning got to finish the regular season at home against the Raiders. Considering he's played so poorly lately, it was no surprise he had laser-like focus vs. Oakland’s 17th-ranked defense.
Manning put up 47 points against the Raiders and threw for 273 yards. However, he completed just 56.8 percent of his passes and failed to throw a TD.

Season Review
In the last four games, he threw just three TD passes compared to six INTs. That is unlike the Manning we’re used to seeing.
His 4,727 yards passing and 101.5 passer rating rank fourth best in the league, and he was second with 39 TD passes.
Manning fell out of the top-ranked spot in Week 9 after Denver's loss to the Patriots. He never got it back. In 2013, he essentially went wire-to-wire as the top-ranked passer in the NFL.

4. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
52 of 55
This Week
Brady and the Patriots put up 37 points on the Bills' dominant defense earlier in the season. This time around the Patriots were playing it safe by resting several of their key players.
Brady didn’t do much in the game. He threw for only 80 yards and completed 50 percent of his passes in the loss to the Bills.

When it comes to stats, Brady is behind Tony Romo in most of the major categories, but he finishes as a top-four QB because of what he’s done with so little around him. For something more quantifiable, Brady is ranked significantly higher than Romo using the grading system at Pro Football Focus.
This system looks beyond stats and grades every play a QB participates in without factoring in the contributions of the players around him.

3. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
53 of 55
This Week
One of the best games of the week was on Sunday night when the Steelers hosted the Bengals. Big Ben attempted to rehash the same magic that led the Steelers to their 42-21 victory over Cincinnati earlier in the month.
A divisional championship, playoff seeding and much more were on the line.
Roethlisberger threw for more than 300 yards and guided the Steelers to a critical victory.

Season Review
It’s safe to say 2014 was one of Big Ben’s best regular seasons of his career. His 103.3 passer rating was the second best of his career. His 72.48 Total QBR and 309.5 passing yards per game were each career highs.
Roethlisberger finished tied for first in the NFL for passing yards (4,952) with Drew Brees. Brees also attempted 51 more passes Big Ben.
The element in Big Ben’s game that puts him above the rest is the unique way he’s able to create offense with his size, strength and athleticism. Many of his big plays have come because he evaded pressure or shed a would-be sack and launched the ball perfectly to a receiver downfield.
This ability is reflected in him being ranked third overall by Pro Football Focus, where he has nearly twice the score Romo does.

Next Week Outlook
Pittsburgh will count on Big Ben more than usual against Baltimore on Saturday because Bell might not play after he hyperextended his knee against the Bengals.
The Ravens have a thin secondary that should bode well for Roethlisberger, who will likely throw about 40 passes in this game.
2. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
54 of 55
This Week
When Washington and Dallas squared off back in October, the Redskins won the game 20-17. Since then, the Cowboys have transformed into one of the hottest teams in the league.
Surprisingly, for a team that’s 4-11, Washington was ranked in the top half of the league in both offense and defense coming into the game. Dallas needed this road win to position itself better in the playoffs.
It beat Washington convincingly and Romo played a solid game, throwing for nearly 300 yards.

The passer rating trophy goes to Romo, who finished the season at 113.2. He also completed 69.9 percent of his passes and had 8.5 yards per pass attempt, both league highs.
Romo had the best regular season of his career, thriving with a productive running game.
He finishing the year as the second-ranked QB and a viable candidate for the MVP trophy.

The Cowboys have the better offense while the Lions have the better defense. Detroit is allowing only 37.2 percent of its opponents' third downs to be converted and 17.6 points per game.
1. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
55 of 55
This Week
Last Sunday’s Packers vs. Lions game at Lambeau Field determined the NFC North champion. The winner also got a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs. Rodgers got a chance to redeem himself against the defense that led to his now-famous quote about relaxing.
Rodgers put on a gutsy performance with an injured calf, completing 77.3 percent of his passes and further cementing his MVP campaign.

Season Review
Rodgers finished the season as the QB who attempted the fewest passes among the 11 QBs with at least 4,000 yards passing.
One of the things that really made Rodgers great this year was that he managed to have the lowest interception rate coupled with the second-highest TD rate in the NFL. That stat combined with not missing a game is worthy of MVP votes.
